The Barrel Cannon is both a Stage Element and rare item in Super Smash Bros Melee. They are a type of Barrel with a large, white arrow. Once thrown (if it lands) they will rotate capturing any opponent or player, except the one who threw it. Once it has captured an opponent/player it will rotate and randomly spit out the character. Barrel Cannons appear in Kongo Jungle and Past Stage Kongo Jungle as Stage Elements. If you got captured by a Barrel Cannon you can set yourself free by pressing the attack button. Barrel Cannons can KO if it spits you out near a blast line or if the arrow is facing downward and spits you out. In some levels in The Subspace Emissary, Barrel Cannon "lookalikes" appear. They have the same role as a normal Barrel Cannon with the rotating and spitting you out, however, they are black and have yellowish-red arrows. They are also smaller and have a similar look to a Bullet Bill. Barrel Cannons don't appear in Super Smash Bros Brawl as items however. Some of the Barrel Cannons, however, fire the player automatically. Barrel Cannons also appear in Mario Super Sluggers in adventure mode. When the player travels to DK Jungle, Donkey Kong meets him/her and says that there is a waterfall too far for him to jump across. Nearby, in a bush, is a Barrel Cannon which launches the player across the waterfall. In DK Mountain, which appeared in Mario Kart Double Dash, and returned in Mario Kart Wii, there is a giant Barrel Cannon known as the Donkey Cannon and later the DK Cannon, that blasts the racers to the other side of the course. Barrel Cannons reappeared in Donkey Kong Country Returns in four different types: the regular Barrel Cannon, an automatic Barrel Cannon (known as the Auto-Fire Barrel), a manual skull Barrel Cannon, and an automatic skull Barrel Cannon. The automatic Barrel Cannons cannot be controlled and fire the Kongs (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong) right away when entered. The skull Barrel Cannons destroy themselves after firing the Kongs.
