Chain Chomps, also known as Chomps, are enemies in Mario games. They are huge balls with eyes and teeth, and a chain attached to them. Chain Chomps are usually tied to something, mostly wooden stakes. Chain Chomps behave like dogs; they even bark like dogs too. They appear inMario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Paper Mario, Mario Super Sluggers, Mario Strikers Charged, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and in the Mario & Sonic series. In Mario Kart Wii, a Chain Chomp appears tied to a wooden stick in Mario Circuit. Loose Chain Chomps appear in Peach Gardens. In both courses, they cause players to flip if hit by them. A Chain Chomp also appears in Chain Chomp Roulette. They roll around the battle course, flattening any players/opponents in its way. In Mario Party 8, Chain Chomps appear in minigames such as Chomping Frenzy, At the Chomp Wash, and Cardiators. In Super Paper Mario, Francis has a pet Chain Chomp in his basement. Also, the guardian of the Underwhere was a three headed Chain Chomp called Underchomp. However, it was really just three Chain Chomps with different colors. In Mario Super Sluggers, a Chain Chomp appears as a gimmick in Bowser Jr's Playroom field. If the ball lands on a Chain Chomp image, a Chain Chomp will appear and attack the players. In Mario Strikers Charged, the Chain Chomp appears by going over the whole field and attacking anyone who had the ball. He will stun the characters who had the ball for a while. In the Mario & Sonic series, Chain Chomp appears as a VIP character. He appears during Dream Ski Cross in the Wii version, and as an obstacle in Extreme Snow Boarding in the DS version. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Chain Chomp does not appear, but is a collectable trophy. In Super Mario Galaxy, a sub-species of Chain Chomps have no chains, and roll around. They are called Chomps in this game. The only ways to defeat them is with a Rainbow Star effect, in 2 player mode when one player holds the Chomp, and the other spins in its face, or if two Chomps crash each other. A Bob-omb also works. There is a golden Chomp that appears in Gusty Garden Galaxy. When defeated by a nearby Rainbow Star, it releases a Power Star. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Chain Chomps are very small. They are tied to yellow, wooden stakes. They can damage Mario if he touches them.By ground pounding the stakes, will free the Chain Chomps. Chain Chomps in this game first appear in World 7. A Chain Chomp is a pulley for Iggy, one of Bowser's children. Every time Mario hits Iggy, the Chain Chomp is angered and goes on a short rampage. Chain Chomps can also be defeated by a Starman.
