Climbing Koopas are enemies that appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are a sub-species of Koopa Troopas. Climbing Koopas look identical to regular Koopa Troopas, however they climb on Fences. These enemies can rarely be found in the game, however, a place where they really can be found is in World 4's Castle. They can be found climbing up and down or side to side on the Fences, and they will never come off the Fences. When these enemies reach an edge on the fence, they will crawl onto the opposite side of the Fence and move up and down/side to side until they reach the other edge. Because of this, Climbing Koopas can be dangerous for Mario and the crew (Luigi, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad). How? Well, if one of the heroes happened to climb on a side opposite a Climbing Koopa, that Climbing Koopa can climb onto the side that the heroes are on when it nears an edge. It will then start climbing. Since Mario and the crew cannot flip to the other side of a Fence like Climbing Koopas can, they will have to either jump off the Fence or jump onto another Fence. If one of the heroes comes in contact with a Climbing Koopa, they will lose a form or die at small form. However, Climbing Koopas can still be easily defeated by firing a Fireball via the Fire Flower at them, by punching them from the opposite side of the Fence (Since controls are slightly changed when a player climbs a Fence, press the 1 Button or 2 Button, it is one of these, on the Wii Remote to punch the Fence. This is the same button that must be pressed to flip a gate on the Fence), or by having the player on top of the Koopa as it passes by. It is to note that just because a Fence is in a level does not mean that there are Climbing Koopas climbing on it.
