The Kongs clinging onto a wooden platform covered in grassy turf at its bottom in Clingy Swingy.

Clingy Swingy is the thirtieth level in Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the second level in the Forest (Donkey Kong Country Returns). This level takes place in a dense forest full of objects hanging by pieces of rope. The objects are covered in green, grassy turf. The Kongs (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong) must cling to this turf as the objects move. At times, the apes must jump from grassy turf to grassy turf. Cling Cobras may make this task fairly difficult, however. Enemies (other than Cling Cobras) in this level include Tiki Zings,Toothberries, Spore Chomps, and Squeeklies are common enemies here as well. In Time Attack mode, a time of 1:50:00 is needed a gold medal, a time of 2:10:00 for a silver medal, and a time of 2:46:00 for a bronze medal.

Overview

The Kongs head to the end of the floor they land on with the DK Barrel at the end.

The level begins with the Kongs landing on a floor. There is a small strange plant (the ones from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns) that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, not too far after where the Kongs land. After the strange plant, the floor slightly goes down a small slope and ends with a DK Barrel. Directly after the DK Barrel, there is a gap with a small wooden platform with two propeller-like plants (also from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns) that can be blown on for a prize, most likely. On this wooden platform, there is a gap ahead of the platform that has a large object covered in grassy turf with a trail of Bananas and Banana Bunches on it. There is also a line of five Tiki Zings that change from positioned horizontally to vertically. The apes should jump and cling onto the object. Here, they should carefully pass the group of five Tiki Zings and head to the other side of the object's turf. Here, they will find a wooden platform attached to two ropes that has a Toothberry on it. These wooden platforms are quite dangerous because they tilt at different areas on them. Anyway the primates should jump here. There is another wooden platform attached to two ropes that has four Bananas on it and a Spore Chomp on a round ceiling above it. The apes must be careful, for Spore Chomps shoot deadly spores (they can't kill in one hit, however, they just make you lose a Heart) in five different directions. There is another wooden platform attached to two ropes with two Toothberries on it. Here, there is a gap with a large object covered in grassy turf that goes in a U-shaped path. The apes should jump and cling onto this object's grassy turf. This causes the object to swing back and forth slowly. There is an oval-shaped object (smaller than the three ones in the previous level, Vine Valley) on the other side of the object the primates are on. There is grassy turf only at the top part of the object, and a Cling Cobra swiftly moves around the entire object. Cling Cobras are some dangerous enemies, they cause the apes to lose a Heart if they touch them, and can even cause the apes to fall off when touched. However, they can be defeated if the apes jump on them. Anyway, the apes should move to the other side of this object with the U-shaped grassy turf path and jump and cling onto this oval-shaped platform. There is are two Banana Coins above the apes that are really on a circular object covered in grassy turf, however, the object cannot directly be seen. To not have any problems with the Cling Cobra, the Kongs should jump on this enemy to defeat it, and jump and cling here. When the apes are finished, they can move to the bottom of this object and drop back to the object with the Cling Cobra. Anyway, there is another object with the grassy turf going in a U-shaped path, however, this object has a large strange plant at the bottom of it, unlike the previous. The Kongs should jump and cling here. On the other side of this object, there is a large object (it is designed quite weird, so it is hard to describe. There are more of these in the level, however) that has grassy turf on it forming a slightly curved shape. When the apes jump and cling onto this object's grassy turf, one group of the ropes that hold it break off. The object then swings a great distance and stops with its grassy turf part facing the right next to a wooden platform attached to two ropes. Anyway, the apes can collect many Bananas and the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters if at the very bottom of this grassy turf (which would be the middle of it when the apes jump to it). Anyway, the apes can jump to the wooden platform attached to two ropes. Here, there is a fungi platform above

and between the first wooden platform and another wooden platform attached to two ropes. The fungi platform holds a DK Barrel. There is also a Spore Chomp on a round ceiling above the second wooden platform. When the primates jump on the fungi platform, many Squeeklies begin to fly through the area. After the Squeeklies pass, the apes can land on the second wooden platform, where they can find a third wooden platform attached to two ropes right after this platform. The apes can jump here and run to the other side of the platform (you really don't have to; there is no need to do so. Here, the apes will find a large gap with a long wooden object that resembles the platforms the apes were just on covered in grassy turf, and there is a fungi platform beneath it at the very middle. There are also many Bananas/Banana Bunches on the object's grassy turf. The primates should jump and cling onto this object, and move along. However, some Squeeklies attack here (so that's why the fungi platform is beneath it!). The apes will have to jump from the fungi platform and back onto the object and fall back to the fungi platform repeatedly to avoid the enemies. Anyway, the object also tilts right as the apes move and there is a large strange plant at the top (other side) of it. It can be reached with skills (go to the secrets part below and look for the Puzzle Pieces part. Anyway, the object can tilt downwards towards a wooden platform attached to two ropes. The apes can land here to find a fungi platform above and between the first wooden platform the apes are now on, and a second wooden platform attached to two ropes. The fungi platform holds a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a prize, most likely. Some Squeeklies also attack here. There is a Spore Chomp on a round ceiling above the second wooden platform. Okay, I decided to be nice so I'll tell players how to get to the strange plant on the object the Kongs just got off. If the apes roll-jump to the left off the fungi platform, they can find themselves on top of the object they just got off from. Here, the Kongs can pound the large strange plant to let out a Puzzle Piece. You all should thank me for this, ah, I'm just kidding. Anyway, there is a third wooden platform attached to two ropes that the apes can reach with a simple jump from the second wooden platform. This platform has four Bananas on it as well as two Banana Coins above its edges (one above the left edge and one above the right edge). A floor can be seen just after this platform, and it holds the Tutorial Pig who hosts the checkpoint. When the apes jump to this floor, they will realize it is just a small platform. Anyway, there is a gap with another long wooden object similar to the wooden platforms the apes were just on that is covered in grassy turf. Two fungi platforms are beneath the object, the second being slightly to the right and lower than the first. Using the first fungi platform, the apes can jump and cling onto the object's grassy turf, however, a Spore Chomp on a log slightly to the right and below the second fungi platform can be found. To get rid of it, the apes can simply head down the two fungi platforms, and jump onto the enemy. It will instantly be defeated. Yep, Spore Chomps are the weakest of all the Chomps in the Chomp family. After this, or anyway, The apes can move along the object as it tilts up and then down, which can then take them to a fungi platform with a DK Barrel on it. When the apes land here, some Squeeklies can be seen approaching them. A Spore Chomp on a log can also be seen, which can be reached if the apes jump to it. Another long wooden object similar to the previous is right after and above this fungi platform. The apes can jump and cling onto this long wooden object's grassy turf. A small strange plant is on the turf near its end, and it can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. At the end of the grassy turf, the apes can jump onto a small platform similar to the one with the Tutorial Pig and the first checkpoint. Here, a large, oval-shaped object (much thinner than the ones in Vine Valley) covered in grassy turf can be found above a gap. Once the apes jump here, one group of ropes breaks off from the object, which causes it to swing back and forth. If the apes move up the left side of the object (which is the side they jump on) and jump, they can land on top of the long wooden objects. If the apes can make it to the other wooden object at its very edge, they can find a skull Barrel Cannon (skull Barrel Cannons/Auto-Fire Barrels destroy themselves after firing the Kongs) and fire themselves into a Bonus Room. However, the apes should be careful, for there is a group of five Tiki Zings that constantly change their position from horizontally to vertically on each wooden object. Anyway, on the oval-shaped object, the apes can go onto the other side to find a large strange plant that can be pounded on for a Puzzle Piece and a circular object covered in grassy turf. When the primates jump onto this circular platform, a group of ropes breaks off of it, causing it to swing a large distance. It stops where the apes can find grassy turf on a circular object. When the apes jump here, more of the circular object can be seen. This object is covered in not just grassy turf, but also Bananas. A wooden platform attached to two ropes is above this circular object. The Kongs can jump here to find

a medium-sized object that is shaped like half of a sphere, or otherwise a hemisphere. The object is covered in grassy turf and there is a group of five Tiki Zings that constantly change their position from horizontally to vertically directly below this object. Also, a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible can be found. When the apes jump and cling onto here, they should carefully pass the group of Tiki Zings and head to the other side of the object as it tilts downwards towards a wooden platform attached to two ropes. This wooden platform has three Toothberries on it. The apes can jump here and defeat the Toothberries by jumping on them. The apes can then jump to another thin oval-shaped platform covered in grassy turf with a group of Tiki Zings that constantly change their position from horizontally to vertically near the top and beside the oval-shaped object. Anyway, when the heroes land here, a group of ropes break off of the object, allowing it to swing back and forth like the previous one encountered a while ago. The apes can go onto the other side of the swinging oval-shaped object to find an object covered in grassy turf going in a U-shaped path after it. This object is the same as the previous ones encountered, however it is more like the circular object just encountered, which was tilted at an angle, for this is also tilted at an angle and has a group of ropes that break

off when the heroes jump on it. This allows the object to swing quite a distance to a platform with the Tutorial Pig hosting the second checkpoint. However, the object does swing past two small platforms with collectibles on them. One platform has two Banana Bunches and the letter O in the middle, and the other has two Banana Bunches and a Banana Coin in the middle. To get here, the apes must drop from the object and land here. After collecting everything, the primates must wait for the object to swing by and then jump and cling onto it. It will then soon take the apes to the platform with the Tutorial Pig hosting the checkpoint. On the platform with the checkpoint, the apes can find a circular object covered in grassy turf and Bananas above a gap. The apes can jump and cling here. There is a wooden platform attached to two ropes that has a Banana Coin above both edges. The apes can jump here, however, as soon as they jump here, some Squeeklies begin approach them. On this platform, there is another wooden platform attached to two ropes that holds four Bananas on it. A fungi platform with a DK Barrel on it is above this platform. Here, there is a third wooden platform attached to two ropes also having four Bananas on it. Some Squeeklies attack here, and a Spore Chomp is on a round ceiling above the third ceiling, not on the one next to it above the the second ceiling. Anyway, the apes can jump here where they can find another wooden platform attached to two ropes with a fungi platform above it that holds a strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. Some Squeeklies attack here. At the end of this platform, the apes can find a large object. They can cling onto this object to cause a group of ropes to break down. This object is covered in grassy turf, however, a small gap is in the middle of it, so the apes cannot travel all the way across it. The ropes break off when the apes land here, and it swings a good distance back and forth. To get to the other side, the apes should drop to a fungi platform below them that the large object swings past. There is a fungi platform beneath this fungi platform that holds the letter N and a thin smaller fungi platform next to the fungi platform beneath the other, slightly to the right of it that holds a Banana. The small fungi platform can be used to reach the fungi platform with the letter N. The Kongs, after grabbing the letter N, can then wait for the large object with the gap to pass by. When the object's right side passes by, the apes should jump and cling onto it. The object can then take the apes to a wooden platform attached to two ropes. The Kongs can jump here and then jump to another wooden platform attached to two ropes. This wooden platform has a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. There is a small oval-shaped object in a gap covered in grassy turf just ahead. A Cling Cobra encircles this object. This small oval-shaped object has a large strange plant at the bottom of it that can be pounded on for a collectible most likely. There is a circular object is just after this oval-shaped object and has grassy turf only on its top part. A Cling Cobra encircles this object and a trio of propeller-like plants can be found that can be blown on for a prize, most likely. The Kongs can jump here and defeat the Cling Cobra. Another circular object above this circular object the apes are on can be found slightly to right of it. This object has grassy turf at the bottom of it, and a special Banana Bunch at its top, which takes skill to reach. A Cling Cobra also encircles this object. The apes can cling here, however, because the apes have no way to defeat the Cling Cobra here, they must drop down to a circular object with grassy turf on its top slightly below it to the right. A Cling Cobra encircles this object, however, it can be defeated with a jump. A long wooden object covered in grassy turf can be seen. There is a small fungi platform beneath it that holds the letter G, as well as some Bananas and three Toothberries at

the top (non-grassy side) of the object. The Kongs can cling onto this object and move along it. It tilts downward to a wooden platform attached to two ropes that holds four Bananas and a Toothberry on it. The apes should jump here. A circular object is above a gap that is covered in grassy turf. There are two Bananas and Banana Bunches with a Puzzle Piece in the middle at the bottom of the object, however, two Cling Cobras encircle this object to make the task of collecting this Puzzle Piece more difficult. A wooden platform attached to two ropes that holds four Bananas and two Toothberries. The apes can jump here and defeat the Toothberries. Here, at the other side of the platform, Here the apes can jump to another weird-shaped object attached to two ropes which is covered in grassy turf. When the primates jump and cling here, a group of ropes breaks off, causing the object to take the Kongs to a fungi platform that has the Slot Machine Barrel above it. The object's grassy turf faces the opposite direction it was at before it was landed on when it swings to this platform. Also, the apes can collect some collectibles if they hang on the bottom of this object's grassy turf (which would be the middle of it when the duo approach it). Anyway, when the Slot Machine Barrel is hit, the level is complete.

Secrets

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: At the beginning of the level, the apes can grab onto a triangular object (which is called the weird-shaped object above) that swings down like a pendulum. As it swings, the apes are pulled toward the letter K at the lowest point that it swings.
  • O:The letter O can be found around the pair of solid platforms under the final swinging object before the second checkpoint. It is on the platform to the left, which can be reached if the primates simply drop down from the swinging object.
  • N: Not too long after the letter O, the heroes reach a large, turf-covered structure that swings. The structure has a gap in the center of it, so they cannot climb all the way around it. This forces the apes to drop down to a fungi platform at the bottom of the area and then jump back onto the other side of the object as it swings back to proceed. If the apes make their way to a fungi platform hidden below this, they can find the letter N.
  • G: The letter g is on a small fungi-platform under a long object with grassy turf on the bottom of it near the end of the level. The Kongs can drop down from the long object to obtain it.

Puzzle Pieces

  1. Shortly after the letter K, a platform with grassy turf on the bottom of it. A strange plant can be found that grows on it, which can be pounded on to reveal the first Puzzle Piece. The platform is high in the air, so the apes must bounce on some Squeeklies to reach it.
  2. A skull Barrel Cannon that shoots the duo into a Bonus Room is high in the air after the first checkpoint and there are two ways to reach it. The apes can high bounce on a nearby Squeekly and move towards the first long grassy turf-covered object. Here, they can pass a group of changing-position Tiki Zings and enter the Barrel Cannon at the end. The second way is to use the oval-shaped object after the second long object and jump on top of the second object. Here, they can pass a group of Tiki Zings and jump onto the first long object, then enter the Barrel Cannon. Anyway, the apes must use a moving trampoline to grab four Banana Coins and forty Bananas (some are winged and fly around) as they fly through the area. If everything is collected within thirty seconds a Puzzle Piece appears.
  3. A large oval-shaped, turf-covered structure that swings back and forth when grabbed onto is shortly after the second Puzzle Piece. The apes should make their way around it and pound the strange plant on the other side to reveal a Puzzle Piece.
  4. When the apes reach the large object with the gap in it that swing them near the letter N, the apes should drop down to the fungi platform area and wait for it to swing back. As it swings toward them, the apes should try to jump on top of it. If they manage to get on it, they are swung under the Puzzle Piece that is located just above it.
  5. A circular object with two Cling Cobras on it is right after the letter G. The fifth and final Puzzle Piece is at the bottom of it.
