The Kongs collect a Banana Coin while jumping over some crumbling wooden platforms next to a rock platform that leans to the side when landed on in Crumble Canyon.

Crumble Canyon is the forty-third level of Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the sixth level of the Cliff. Many crumbling, wooden platforms are found in this level. Some of these crumbling platforms the Kongs (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong) must avoid, for they can cause them to fall into the abyss and lose an Extra Life Balloon, while others can help them cross gaps. Wooden platforms that tilt when stood on and slanted floors are also found in Crumble Canyon. Nearly everything in Crumble Canyon crumbles, even certain parts of the background! Near the end of the level, the heroes discover a giant, monster-like ball that rolls after them when they are forced to land on it. The heroes must move quickly (rolling is the best choice, my, Smashbro8's opinion) to avoid being rolled over and losing an Extra Life Balloon. Sometimes, the heroes should slow down and wait for the ball enemy, as it alters parts of the Kongs' surroundings to let them proceed. Other enemies besides the ball enemy in this level include Skellyrexes, Skullyrexes, and Tiki Buzzes. Also, Crumble Canyon is the last level in the Cliff with cloudy weather, for Tippy Shippy and Clifftop Climb take place at a beautiful, sunny morning at dawn. In Time Attack mode, a time of 1:33:00 is needed to get a gold medal, a time of 1:49:00 for a silver medal, and a time of 2:26:00 for a bronze medal.

Overview

CrumbleCanyon165-1-

The heroes ride on a platform that tips over when they stand on it.

The level begins with the heroes landing on a floor. If the Kongs head left, they can blow on a large, blue, propeller-like plant for a Puzzle Piece. Anyway, the Kongs can move ahead. When the heroes reach a certain area, part of the land moves down, forcing them to jump to a higher rock platform. Here, also, part of the land falls away, carrying a Skellyrex along with it. Anyway, due to the destruction of the land, the heroes, from here, should jump to a skinny part of floor, and then jump to a slightly larger part of floor that holds a Skullyrex and a Banana on it. From here, the heroes can jump over a gap with a Tiki Buzz flying up and down in it to land on a skinny piece of land. Here, the heroes can jump to a floor with a Barrel, Skullyrex, Banana, and Skellyrex on it. Anyway, once the heroes land on the part of the floor with the Skellyrex, it tilts downward. A Barrel Cannon is over a gap next to the end of this part of floor. The heroes can then jump into this Barrel Cannon. Here, they can fire onto a large, quite wide rock platform attached to a floor. The large, quite-wide platform holds a Banana Bunch on it. If the heroes head left, they can reach a cactus at the end of the floor that can be pounded on for another Puzzle Piece. Anyway, once the heroes move a certain distance on the large, quite wide, rock platform, it breaks off the floor and begins to tip to the side and crashes into another rock platform. Before the large, quite wide, rock platform crashes into the rock platform, the heroes should jump on it. Here, this rock platform tips and crashes into another rock platform. Before it does so, the heroes should jump on the next rock platform. Here, this rock platform tips and crashes into another rock platform. Before it gets a chance to do so, the heroes should jump here. This rock platform tips now and crashes into ANOTHER ROCK PLATFORM!!! Before it does so, the Kongs should jump on the next rock platform. Now, this rock platform tips and crashes into a slanted floor with a trail of Bananas before it. Since the platform is so slanted the heroes will slide down it. A wooden platform that tilts when stepped on is after this slanted floor. Anyway, the heroes can find the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters at the bottom of this slanted floor. The heroes can slide through some dinosaur bones in the way and into the letter K, then jump onto the wooden platform. A Banana Coin is above this wooden platform. Another wooden platform that tilts when stepped on with a Skellyrex walking on it is after this. The heroes can jump here and get rid of the Skellyrex, by jumping on it twice (unless its head falls into the gap). A higher, non-tilting, non-crumbling wooden platform holding a DK Barrel is after this. The heroes can tilt the wooden platform to where its right side is pointing up (they should stand on the left side of the wooden platform to get this done) and just roll-jump here, however, since these wooden platforms tilt so low that they can cause the heroes to slide right off, with no choice but to fall into the abyss and die, reaching here is quite a challenge. The heroes can, however, just jump here. Here, there is a small gap with a Tiki Buzz flying up and down above it, as well as a crumbling, wooden platform after this Tiki Buzz. The heroes can jump and hover to this crumbling wooden platform, and then jump over another Tiki Buzz and land on another crumbling, wooden platform. Here, the heroes can jump to a crumbling, wooden platform below the previous slightly to the right with a Skullyrex on it. Another way to get here is, if the heroes high bounce off the first Tiki Buzz, hover to the second Tiki Buzz, land and high bounce off the second Tiki Buzz and hover here, they can just drop down to this platform. A good way to avoid those wooden platforms that crumble when stood on. Anyway, here, there is a smaller crumbling, wooden platform below the previous slightly to the right. The apes can jump here. From here, they can jump to a wooden platform that tilts when stood on that holds a Skellyrex walking back and forth on it. Also, a Puzzle Piece being covered up by some wooden boards. If the heroes high bounce on the Skellyrex and move left, they can collect the Puzzle Piece, which also removes the wooden boards to reveal the collectible. Anyway, the heroes can stand on the left side of the wooden platform to tilt the right side up, then quickly roll-jump before they slide off to land on a crumbling, wooden platform. Three more, smaller crumbling, wooden platforms are ahead, with an arch of Bananas going from to the first platform to the third platform. Also, a Banana Coin is in midair above the third crumbling, wooden platform. Anyway, the heroes should jump on the first small, crumbling, wooden platform, and then quickly jump onto the second small, crumbling, wooden platform. From here, the heroes can jump onto the third crumbling wooden platform. A rock platform is after this. When the heroes jump here and land, the rock platform tips and crashes into something. Right before it crashes, the heroes can jump onto a crumbling wooden platform. Ahead there is a smaller crumbling, wooden platform with the letter O on it below this wooden platform the heroes are on slightly to the right, as well as a crumbling, wooden platform holding a special Bananas Bunch on it above the one with the letter O slightly to the right. The heroes (if the player wants to) can jump onto the crumbling wooden platform with the special Banana Bunch and let it crumble, causing the heroes to drop onto the one with the letter O on it. Anyway, after the crumbling, wooden platform with the letter O, there is another crumbling, wooden platform, which the heroes can jump to. Here, the heroes can now jump to a tilting, wooden platform. A wooden floor with two Skellyrexes, a DK Barrel, and the Tutorial Pig hosting the first checkpoint can be seen, however it is too high to reach with a jump. So, with that being said, the heroes should stand on the left side of the wooden platform to cause the right side of the platform to tilt up. Now, they should roll-jump to this wooden floor with the checkpoint before they slide off the wooden floor. After the checkpoint, the heroes can find a crumbling, wooden platform with a Banana on it next to a wall made of wooden boards. The heroes should jump here. Here, they can quickly jump

to another crumbling, wooden platform below them to the left that also holds a Banana. Here, they can jump to another crumbling, wooden platform with a Skellyrex walking on it and a Banana resting on it below them to the right. From here, they can see a Barrel Cannon ahead to the left, as well as a crumbling, wooden platform below them to the left before the Barrel Cannon. The heroes can either roll-jump into the Barrel Cannon, or they can jump onto the platform below them to the left, which holds a Banana Coin, and then jump into the Barrel Cannon. The Barrel Cannon can fire the Kongs onto a slanted piece of land closer into the foreground. When the Kongs land, they can head backward up the slanted piece of land to find a skull Barrel Cannon (skull Barrel Cannons/Auto-Fire Barrels destroy themselves/explode, whatever you want to call it, after firing the Kongs) in a gap at the top. If the heroes jump in this skull Barrel Cannon, they can fire themselves into the level's Bonus Room. Anyway, after sliding down this slanted piece of land, they can find a Barrel at the end and a wooden bridge with three Skullyrexes after it. After

the heroes pass this wooden bridge, they will find two blue, propeller-like plants that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely near the end of the floor. Immediately after these two blue, propeller-like plants, there is a Barrel Cannon in the gap. The heroes can jump into this Barrel Cannon. Here, they can fire onto a slanted wooden floor. They will slide through some dinosaur bones before the Kongs must jump over a small gap and slide down another slanted floor. After sliding through some more dinosaur bones, the heroes should jump onto a crumbling, wooden platform with a Skellyrex on it and an Extra Life Balloon slowly floating upwards above it, which can be reached if the apes jump to it at the right time. On this crumbling wooden platform, the heroes must now jump to a slanted floor facing the opposite direction of the previous ones. A Barrel Cannon is in the gap at the top of this slanted floor. So, instead of sliding down this slanted floor (which would kill you if you do so, since you will fall in the gap below), the Kongs must now climb/jump to the top of this slanted wooden platform. When the heroes reach the top, they can hop inside the Barrel Cannon and fire to a crumbling, wooden platform in the foreground (by the way, the previous area is in the background). On this crumbling wooden platform, the heroes can then jump to a long, slanted, wooden, floor with a long trail of Bananas on it as well. On the way down, the heroes will slide past a large,

Tyrannosaurus Rex (or T-Rex)-like skeleton. At the end of this area, the heroes can jump into a Barrel Cannon and fire onto a floor with a cactus that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, and another wooden bridge with two Skullyrexes and a Skellyrex on it. Immediately after the wooden bridge, the heroes can find two blue, propeller-like plants that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely. After these two blue, propeller-like plants, the heroes can travel over a wooden part of the floor that holds the Tutorial Pig hosting the second checkpoint. At the end of this floor, there is a giant, monster-like ball that rests peacefully next to the floor the apes are on. However, since this ball is so big, there is no way the heroes can get past it without stepping on it. So, when the heroes step on it and land on the ground this giant, monster-like ball wakes up, becomes angry (its eyes become on fire), and begins to chase the Kongs. The Kongs must now run away from this ball enemy for the rest of the level, for if it rolls over them, it is instant death. Anyway, here, a wooden wall in the way breaks, allowing the Kongs to move further. There is a trail of Bananas in midair ahead too. As the Kongs roll down this thin floor, it tilts down and hits another floor, due to the weight of the ball enemy. The heroes should land on this next floor, which faces the

opposite direction of the previous (it faces to the left; the previous faces to the right). When the ball enemy gets near, this floor tilts enough to let the heroes travel over it. The floor lands on another floor, which the heroes can land on too. This floor has a Banana Coin on it, which can be collected, however the duo should watch out for the ball enemy. Once the ball enemy gets near, the floor tilts enough to let the heroes move along it. It falls on another floor. The heroes can slide down this floor and collect four Bananas. They will pass a large, Triceratops-like skull. Hiding in the nostril of the giant, Triceratops-like skull is a Puzzle Piece, which is also over a small gap. If the heroes slow down a bit and jump over the gap, they are most likely to collect the Puzzle Piece along the way. On the other side of the gap, the heroes will slide down another slanted floor before they jump over a Tiki Buzz, and go through an arch of Bananas, only to land on another floor. Once the apes reach here, they should immediately jump over a small wooden fence/board in the way. Almost immediately after this wooden board/fence, there is a blue, propeller-like plant in the ground that can be blown on for a Puzzle Piece. However, the heroes should be quick, for the ball enemy is still chasing them, and it is not over. After the blue, propeller-like plant, there is a Skellyrex. After the Skellyrex, the heroes can continue to slide down this floor, through some Bananas, before they jump through an arch of Bananas and over a Tiki Buzz to land on a wooden floor. At the end of this wooden floor, there is an arch of Bananas as well as the letter N behind it near a wall. If the heroes roll-jump off this wooden floor and hover, they can reach the letter N. Now, the heroes should drop down to the lower floor and run to the wooden area of it to the very left (it holds a Banana, by the way) before the ball enemy falls. Once the ball enemy, falls, this wooden area breaks, dropping the Kongs onto a similar floor. However, this floor's wooden area is to the far right, and it also holds a Banana. The heroes should quickly run to the wooden area and stand there before the ball enemy falls here. When it does fall here, the wooden area breaks, dropping the Kongs onto one last similar area, where the wooden area, which holds a Banana, is, once again, to the very left of the floor. Quickly, the heroes should run here before the ball enemy falls. When it does fall, the wooden area breaks, dropping the Kongs onto a floor with a Banana Bunch and a trail of Bananas, which they can slide through. However, immediately after the last Banana of the trail is a stream of tar. The heroes should jump over this stream of tar, for if they get caught in it, then they are in bad shape (they, most likely are going to be rolled over by the ball enemy since tar slows down the Kongs' movement and lowers their jumping height). After jumping over this small stream of tar, the heroes must now jump on a wooden floor above a large, wide stream of tar. They can then roll down this wooden floor and then fall to the other floor beneath it, collecting a Banana on the way. As soon as the apes land here, they must jump over a wooden barrier (or fence/board, whatever you want to call it) with a Banana Bunch after it. However, once the Kongs jump over it, some boards above move away, revealing a Puzzle Piece. To reach this Puzzle Piece, the heroes should quickly jump onto the wooden barrier, and then jump into the Puzzle Piece. Almost immediately after this wooden barrier, there is another, smaller wooden floor that travels over a medium-sized stream of tar. At the end of the wooden floor, there is another barrier sticking out from above, so the Kongs have to drop to the lower floor to go under it. The heroes can now roll/slide down the floor some more to soon jump over a Skellyrex and collect a few Banana Bunches and head under another wooden barrier sticking out from above. Another wooden barrier sticking out from above is after this first one, and a Puzzle Piece stands between the two wooden boards. The heroes can simply jump to reach it. Now immediately after the second wooden board sticking out from above, the heroes must jump over another one in the ground, and then travel under another one after it. The letter G is after this last wooden board sticking out from above, and it can be reached with a simple jump. Shortly after the heroes pass the letter G, they can jump to a crumbling, wooden

platform over a lake of tar (by the way, the ball enemy falls into the lake of tar and sinks in it). From here, the heroes can then jump to another crumbling, wooden platform and then jump to a larger, non-crumbling floor with the Slot Machine Barrel above it. BUT!!! DON'T EVEN THINK OF HITTING THAT BARREL!!!! If the heroes decide to let one of the two platforms crumble and drop them into the tar, the heroes can jump through the tar (jumping is the only way to avoid sinking into the tar and losing an Extra Life Balloon) to find a Puzzle Piece. They can then jump to a Barrel Cannon (or Auto-Fire Barrel, it is one of the two) and fire back onto the wooden floor with the Slot Machine Barrel above it. Once the Slot Machine Barrel is hit, the level is complete!

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K:
    Crumble Canyon Letter O

The heroes jump to the letter O.

The letter K is located after a group of four tipping rock platforms. When the heroes land on the fourth tipping rock platform in the group, it tilts and crashes onto a slanted floor, causing the heroes to slide down it. The letter K is at the bottom of this slanted floor. The heroes can simply slide down into the letter and jump onto the tilting, wooden platform after it.
  • O: On the third crumbling, wooden platform before the first checkpoint is the letter O, and can be easily reached with a jump here.
  • N: In the area where the Kongs are being chased by the ball enemy, after sliding down a couple floors, the heroes will reach a wooden floor with an arch of Bananas and the letter N near a wall after it. If the heroes roll-jump and hover off this wooden floor, they can reach the letter N. Now, they must move to the wooden part of the floor below to survive.
  • G: At the very end of the area, right before the last two crumbling, wooden platforms in the level, the heroes can find the letter G after the last wooden board sticking out from above. It can easily be reached with a jump.

Puzzle Pieces

  1. CrumbleCanyon265-1-

The Kongs in a Bonus Room.

At the start of the level, the Kongs can head backwards and blow on a hidden, large, blue, propeller-like plant that is hidden behind a wooden wall. When this plant is blown on, it comes out of the ground, carrying a Puzzle Piece attached to it.
  2. After getting launched by the first Barrel Cannon in the level, the heroes can head backwards and pound on a cactus at the end of the floor. When it is pounded on, it reveals a Puzzle Piece.
  3. Soon after the first DK Barrel, the Puzzle Piece can be found hidden some boards above a tilting, wooden platform with a Skellyrex on it. The Kongs can simply high bounce off the enemy (the Skellyrex) to reach it.
  4. After firing from the first Barrel Cannon after the first checkpoint, the heroes can head back up the slanted floor. At the top, they can find a skull Barrel Cannon over a gap, which they can jump into to fire into a Bonus Room. Here, the heroes must collect fourty-four Bananas and four Banana Coins while bouncing on a moving trampoline. Once everything is collected within thirty-seconds, a Puzzle Piece appears.
  5. While the heroes are running away from the ball enemy, they can find the Puzzle Piece hiding under the nostril of a giant Triceratops-like skull. If the heroes jump to it, they can collect it.
  6. Shortly after the fifth Puzzle Piece around the giant, Triceratops-like skull, the heroes will come across a blue, propeller-like plant that can be blown on for a Puzzle Piece.
  7. Shortly after the letter N, in the area with the tar, the heroes come up to a wooden barrier they must jump over. When they jump over this barrier, some wooden boards from above move away, revealing a Puzzle Piece. To collect the Puzzle Piece, the heroes should jump on the wooden barrier itself, then jump in the Puzzle Piece.
  8. Immediately before the letter G, the eighth Puzzle Piece can be found between two wooden boards sticking out from above. It can easily be reached with a jump.
  9. The ninth and final Puzzle Piece is above the lake of tar below the wooden floor with the Slot Machine Barrel above it. If the heroes let one of the two crumbling, wooden platforms crumble and drop them into the tar, the heroes can jump to this Puzzle Piece. They can then enter a Barrel Cannon/Auto-Fire Barrel and fire to the wooden floor with the Slot Machine Barrel above it.
