The Research Facility (Part 2) is the nineteenth level in The Subspace Emissary. It is a large level like Research Facility (Part 1). However, Research Facility (Part 2) has more features than the first one. Research Facility (Part 2) features red and blue blocks with blue lights that move up and down depending on light and dark, red and blue cube-shaped blocks with switches on both sides that move, red cube-shaped blocks with spikes on their tops and bottoms and switches on their sides that move, orange circles with orange platforms that move a certain direction when stood on, a conveyor belt-like platform that moves, even teleporters. These features can make the level pretty difficult.
Plot[]
When the player plays this level for the first time, the first cutscene plays, showing Zero Suit Samus and Pikachu going after Samus's Power Suit, which was somehow captured by the Subspace Army. When they arrive at the room where the Suit is stored, the duo are ambushed by Shadow Bug clones (or False Samuses). of the Power Suit. After the copies are defeated, Zero Suit Samus uses here Plasma Whip to break her suit out of its glass container. However, when she breaks the glass, she sets off numerous alarms, and R.O.B.s swarm all around the room. After defeating the enemies, Samus dons her Power Suit and the duo set off again. Eventually, after a difficult maze of moving platforms, most which are moving, they come to a large room where Samus is attacked by Ridley. The boss swoops down and grabs Samus, scraping her against the wall as sparks fly off the Power Suit. Pikachu jumps up and zaps Ridley with Thunder, which makes Ridley drop Samus. Samus and Ridley land next to Pikachu, and Samu's Power Suit is still giving off sparks as if it is malfunctioned or damaged. However, she emerges unscathed in terms of damage. Ridley was covered in electricity as he fell, though he only seems to give himself a headache when he lands face-first. He too looks unscathed. A boss battle ensues. After Ridley is defeated, the pair exit the Facility and appear on the grassy surface of the Isle of the Ancients. Samus spots R.O.B.s carrying Subspace Bombs into another building, so they decide to pursue. This leads to a later level, the Subspace Bomb Factory.
Walkthrough[]
When the player begins, he will be in a dark hallway only lit by blue lights that pass by every now and then. The player shall begin moving. He will shortly walk down a slope, where he will meet a R.O.B. Sentryand another one on a platform with an orange front in midair. After they are defeated, the player should begin moving to find a R.O.B. Blaster on another orange-fronted platform in midair. A Glice will near the player. After the enemies are defeated, the player should continue moving, and jump up a nearby higher part of floor. Here, he shall move and fall off of it at its end. Here is a switch on your left. Hit it to light up the place. The background shows machines with blue lights. Anyway, shortly after hitting the switch and moving forward, the player will collide into some breakable blocks blocking the path. The player should destroy the blocks to reveal his path. He should continue moving to find three R.O.B. Blasters on a stair-like floor. One is on the same floor as the player, another on a higher part of floor, and another on an even higher part of floor. First, the player should defeat the R.O.B. Blaster on the floor. After it is defeated, the player should jump to the higher part of floor and defeat the R.O.B. Blaster there. After it is defeated, the player should jump up to the higher part of floor and defeat the R.O.B. Blaster there. After it is defeated, a Glice on the ceiling will roll by. After it is defeated, the player should notice another Glice rolling towards the player from a lower part of floor. After it is defeated, the player should jump to a higher part of floor, run over an orange-fronted platform attached to the floor, and hit the switch at the end of the floor. It will light up the place. Now, the player should go to the orange-fronted platform attached to the floor and press the down button on the Wii Remote's D-pad to drop through it. On the floor, the player should defeat the nearby Glice (if it is not there, it probably passed you when you hit the switch). After it is defeated, the player should continue moving. He should come across a gap shortly. The player should jump over the gap, to find the path is blocked by large red blocks with blue lights (if the light is still on). If the light turned off and darkened the place before you got here, the red blocks would be open, otherwise wait for the screen to darken and the red blocks to open up the path. Now, the player should jump onto the red blocks, and go to the other side of them, then fall off of them. The player is in a small room. The player should move forward a little to find three orange-fronted platforms in midair. The one in the middle, which is the highest, has a switch. The player should jump onto the orange-fronted platform and hit the switch. When it is hit, two Big Primids will fall into the room, and red blocks will close, blocking you from exiting the room. After the enemies are defeated, wait for the red blocks on your right to open up, unless they have already opened up. Jump onto the opened red blocks to find two blue blocks, which look like blue versions of the red blocks, however, blue blocks are stationary, unlike red blocks. One blue block is on the floor, and another is on the ceiling. The player should jump onto the blue block on the floor. Here, he should notice the path is blocked by red blocks, and that the blue block has a switch. The player should hit the switch. The red blocks will move- one going up through the ceiling, and one into a gap. Then they are nowhere to be seen. Another red block will rise and stop a little further than the one that went down the gap. The player should jump onto the red block. On it, the player should jump onto a blue block and stand on it. Red blocks are blocking the path. The screen should soon darken and the red blocks will open up the path. The player should stand on the red blocks and notice an orange-fronted platform moving up and down. The player should jump on it and wait for another orange platform moving side to side to come by. The player should jump on it. When it moves and stops, then moves again, the player should jump of the platform, and he will land on a floor. The player has crossed an "invisible" gap, too dark to see without light. Anyway, a Sword Primid should run by. There is an orange platform with a ladder attached to it. A Roader should charge and move toward the player. After the enemies are defeated, another Sword Primid and sometimes a Glice should move toward the player from behind him. When it/they is/are defeated, the player should turn around and move a little to notice a switch on a wall with an orange-fronted platform next to it. The player should jump onto the orange-fronted platform and hit the switch. Now, the player should quickly run to the ladder and slide down it. The ladder is pretty long. When the player falls off the ladder and onto a floor made of red blocks, he should notice a Door on his left. The player should, quickly, enter the door. You see, when it is dark, the red blocks cover the door and rise to a floor that you were supposed to go to. Anyway, inside, the player will be in a room with an Orange Cube and a Turquoise Cube. The Orange Cube is on a platform in midair and the Turquoise Cube is on a very high part of floor. First, the player should bust open the Orange Cube and collect its collectible. Now, the player should jump to the Turquoise Cube and bust it open. It should give the player a Heart Container. After the Heart Container is used, the player should exit the room. Outside, the screen will automatically darken, and the red block floor will rise pushing the player to the floor he was supposed to go to on his right. The floor has a Door. An orange arrow is pointing at the Door. The player should enter the Door. The player will be in an already lit room. A Buckot will appear and will hover the direction not facing the player. The player should move forward to find a R.O.B. Sentry. The Buckot should shortly turn around. The player should defeat both of the enemies and continue moving. A R.O.B. Sentry should move toward the player while a R.O.B. Blaster nearby should fire lasers at the player. After they are defeated, the player will encounter a R.O.B, Blaster near a Door. After it is defeated, the player should enter the Door. The player must battle two False Samuses on a large platform in a large room with a Power Suit in a glass container. The glass container is giving off light. Items will fall to help the player defeat the False Samuses. Look for Home-Run Bats. Then use the bat's side smash to One-hit KO them. When the False Samuses are defeated, the audience will cheer and the player will be transferred to another part of the level. Here, three R.O.B. Sentries will near the player. After they are defeated, the player should continue moving to find two more R.O.B. Sentries following him and a R.O.B. Blaster hovering near the player. After they are defeated, the player should continue moving. He will shortly find two breakable boxes on the ground. The player should either jump over them, or break them. The player will now be near a gap. On the other side is a R.O.B. Blaster and four breakable blocks. The player should jump to the other side and defeat the R.O.B. Blaster. After it is defeated, the player should break the breakable boxes and continue moving. Very shortly, the player will encounter another gap. On the other side is a higher part of floor. Two R.O.B. Sentries will move towards the player from the higher part of floor, and may fall down the gap. A R.O.B. Blaster is on the higher part of floor. After the R.O.B. Sentries are defeated, should jump to the higher part of floor and defeat the R.O.B. Blaster. After it is defeated, the player should continue moving to where the path ends. At the end, breakable boxes are near a wall and lots of them are underneath the player. The player will also here the sound of switches, going on and off, but no switches are present. Anyway, notice the floor beneath you on your right. Use down-special moves and down smash attack to break the boxes. Now, when you and the floor are on the same break the boxes on your right with regular attacks and side smash attacks. Don't keep breaking the boxes beneath you in search for an Orange Cube, for there is none here, and all you get is a gap to fall into, which isn't good at all! When you've broken the boxes and revealed the path to the floor, jump on it. Its end is visible. Notice a blue block with a switch on its side that is moving up and down, and is colliding into a spiked floor and spiked ceiling. This blue block is cube-shaped not rectangular prism shaped like the ones earlier. Run to the edge of the floor. DON'T TOUCH THE SPIKES!! Now, you should notice that the blue block has another switch on its opposite side. When the block comes near, hit the switch on it. You could hit the switch with a projectile, but that is not a good decision, because these blocks reactivate quickly. Anyway, the blue block will stop moving. Quickly, jump on top of it. On it, pause the game and notice a red version of the blue block you're on. Now take the game off pause and try to hit the switch on the red block. The blue block may continue moving, but as long as you hit the switch on the red block you are fine. If the blue block is about to crush you into the spiked ceiling, and you have not yet hit the red block's switch, run off the blue block and land on the damaging spikes. When the red block comes near, hit its switch with an Up Smash. Now jump on it, and then jump on a floor with a R.O.B. Launcher and a R.O.B. Blaster who is on a lower part of floor than the R.O.B. Launcher. After the R.O.B. Launcher is defeated, the player should move to the R.O.B. Blaster. After it is defeated, the player will be at a large gap. Over this gap are more of those darn two switched blocks! The player should hit the switch on the red block first, jump on it, and quickly hit the switch on a blue block. Jump on top of the blue block swiftly. A last red block is next. Hit the red block's switch and jump on it. Now, jump onto a floor with a R.O.B. Launcher. Here, you should notice two R.O.B. Blasters behind the R.O.B. Launcher. After the R.O.B. Launcher is defeated, head for the R.O.B. Blasters. After they are defeated, continue moving and enter a nearby Door. You will be on a floor with a higher part of floor in view that has a switch facing the player. Also notice a "mysterious" green line above you on your right and a ceiling above the green line with a red arrow pointing down. You may not know where you are, but you are in a very dangerous part of the level, or probably THE MOST DANGEROUS PART OF THE LEVEL. It is easy to fall in a gap and die here. Here is also infested with Cymuls. Anyway, run to the switch and hit it. A large orange circle with an orange platform attached to it will fall from underneath the arrowed ceiling. Ignore it and jump on the higher part of floor. Defeat the R.O.B. Sentry and R.O.B. Launcher there. After they are defeated, go back and jump on the orange circle's platform. It will start moving right and then up on the green line. When it goes up, look for an opening with a floor on your right that has a red platform attached to it and a Cymul circling around the floor. When you see such, jump on the floor. Defeat the Cymul that is here. After it is defeated, continue moving. You will encounter a gap with a green line that is going vertically next to the floor. On the other side is a floor with a red ladder. Jump to that floor. Here is another Cymul and a red ladder on the end of this floor that can only be slid down. After the Cymul is defeated, climb the ladder you saw at the gap (the one on the floor that can only be climbed up). At the top is a switch and a R.O.B. Blaster. Defeat the R.O.B. Blaster and hit the switch. An orange circle with an orange platform will appear. Jump on it. It will move right and enter a forced battle against R.O.B. Sentries, R.O.B. Launchers, a R.O.B. Blaster, a Cymul and an Autolance, which appears after the Cymul is defeated. When you enter the forced battle, quickly jump off the orange platform and land on the floor in which the battle takes place. After all enemies are defeated, a Stock Ball will appear. After it has been collected, continue moving until you reach a higher part of floor with a switch facing you. Beneath this switch are purple Bomb Block blocks but the Bomb Block is nowhere to be seen. Hit the switch and jump on the higher part of floor. At the end, which is visible is an orange circle with its orange platform. Jump onto its platform. It will move down. Look for a pathway on your left. When you see it, jump to it. Hit the Bomb Block here to reveal a red ladder. Ignore the ladder and move past it. You will see a Door. Enter the Door. Inside are two red blocks with switches on their sides resembling the ones you saw earlier. Only thing, they have spikes on their tops and bottoms and move as fast and crazy as ever! Hit the first red block's switch. Be careful when doing this; if you are too close, the thing will crush you. Don't even jump over it, for it can crush into the ceiling. After you have ceased it, jump on it, and run to the other side, then fall off it. Be quick! These blocks are just as fast when it comes to reactivating as the previous ones. Anyway, bust open the Turquoise Cube here. It should give you a Trophy or two Stickers. After you've collected the collectible (s) hit the next red block. This one is pretty hard to hit, and may require up-special moves or aerial attacks to hit it because this block is over a gap. When you've successfully hit it, jump on it, and run and fall off to the other side. On the floor, is an Orange Cube. Bust it open and collect its collectible. Now hit the red blocks' switches and exit out the room. Outside, run right and climb the red ladder. Here is the same switch you pressed earlier that sent the orange platform, in which, sent you here. Hit the switch, and jump onto the higher part of floor. Now jump onto the orange circle's platform. It will go down. This time, ignore the pathway on your left. It should go past a Cymul and near two other orange circles with their platforms. Jump onto the lower circle's platform on your left. It will move right. Don't dare jump, or you'll fall to your death because you are over ENORMOUS gap. If that happens, you will reappear back at the hallway with the hidden Door. Soon the circle platform you are on will go up and pass some Cymuls. It should soon pass by another orange circle with its orange platform next to a Cymul. Ignore the Cymul and jump onto the circle's platform. It will go down and shortly pass by another orange circle with its platform underneath an arrowed ceiling. Quickly, jump onto this circle's platform. It will move right. It will soon pass by a floor with a Door, and a Cymul underneath it. When it does so, quickly, jump to the floor and enter the Door. You will be in a room with teleporters that give off a blue light. One teleporter is in midair and another one is on the ground. Notice to the right of the teleporter in midair is a gate blocking the entrance to a Door. Run to the teleporter on the ground and press up on the Wii Remote's D-pad to be teleported. You will be teleported into a forced battle against a Primid, a Roturret, and a Scope Primid on a large floor. After all enemies are defeated, two parts of the floor, opposite each other, will lower revealing teleporters. Run to the teleporter on the right and enter it. You will be in a room with three Springs and a Scope Primid will start shooting at you. After it is defeated, jump on the Springs and jump right to land on more Springs on a floor sticking out of the wall. A R.O.B. Blaster will hover toward you. In midair, move left to land on a small floor with more Springs. Jump on the Springs and move left to land on a floor sticking out of the wall with a teleporter. If the R.O.B. Blaster is still following you, defeat it. After it is defeated, enter the teleporter. You will be on a floor sticking out of the floor with a teleporter which will transfer you to the room you were in with the Spring and a gap at its visible end. You will hear a noise. A R.O.B. Blaster will hover towards you. After it is defeated, wait for a moving conveyor belt-shaped platform to move near you. Quickly jump on it, for it moves fast. This platform is what is making the noise you are hearing other than the music. You will see a cube-shaped platform with a teleporter. Jump on it and quickly jump back onto the moving conveyor belt-shaped platform. You will soon see a teleporter in midair. Enter it. It will transfer you to the room you were in with the gate and two teleporters. You are on the top level of the room. On your right is a switch. Hit the switch to lower the gate. Enter the teleporter on your left. You will land on the moving conveyor belt-shaped platform. You will come across the cube-shaped platform with the teleporter you ignored earlier. Jump to it and enter the teleporter. You will fall down a tunnel, and will land on a floor with a Glice on your left and an Orange Cube on your right. Defeat the Glice and bust open the Orange Cube. Two Glices on opposite sides will roll down the tunnel. Collect the Orange Cube's collectible and defeat the Glices. Move left to find a teleporter. Enter it. You will be transferred to the room with the gate and two teleporters, but this time, the gate is opened. Run to the door and enter it. You will be in a room with a purplish background. Run right to find a red platform with a Turquoise Cube on it. Bust open the Turquoise Cube. It should give you two Maxim Tomatoes or Heart Containers. After the items have been used, enter the nearby Doo. You are now transferred to a boss battle with Ridley on a long platform. Items will fall to help defeat the boss. After Ridley is defeated, the level is complete.
