The Good Egg Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It is also known as the Egg Planet Galaxy and is the second galaxy visited in the game. It is one of the few galaxies with no set theme that continues to be visible throughout the planets. It has many different planets with many contradictory themes like a real galaxy. Dino Piranha and King Kaliente are the bosses of this galaxy. To unlock this galaxy, get one Power Star.
Planets[]
Starting Planet[]
This planet is a multi-sided planet, having a light and dark side. On the light side, there is grass, bushes, trees with Star Bits and Coins. There is also a pleasant house with two Octoombas guarding the front. Inside the house, which is reached via a Warp Pipe, there is a Question Coin which releases a trail of several Rainbow Notes. After all Rainbow Notes are collected, a 1-Up Mushroom. The dark side of the planet has many dead trees with Star Bits in their branches and a constant rain of Star Bits, which is, arguably, the best place to get Star Bits in the galaxy. In the center of the planet is a giant tower with a special side (path) that bends the laws of Gravity and allows Mario to walk up. There is aGoomba on that side (path). In the missions, there will be Launch Stars placed in three different locations. Where the Launch Star is placed depends on which level the player is playing. In the missions, "Dino Piranha, "Dino Piranha Speed Run" and "Luigi on the Roof" it is found at the top of the tower and leads to the Boulder Planet, however in "Luigi on the Roof", Luigi is on top of the house, so there is no point in taking the Launch Star. In "A Snack of Cosmic Proportions" and "Purple Coin Omelet", the Launch Star is located at the top of a set of three Pull Stars at the end of the stone walkway next to the tower and leads to a maze of three planets: The Tropic Planets and the Egg Planet. Last but not least, in "King Kaliente's Battle Fleet" the Launch Star is on top of the house and leads to the Tropic Planets.
Boulder Planet[]
The Boulder Planet is a peanut-shaped planet with Boulders rolling on it in "Dino Piranha" and "Luigi on the Roof". However, in "Dino Piranha Speed Run", the Boulders are replaced with Incoming Chomps. Mario can either dodge the Boulders or destroy them by hitting their red spot with a Spin, but he cannot hurt the Incoming Chomps. To get here, Mario must use a Launch Star from the Starting Planet. To leave this planet, Mario must collect five Star Chips while avoiding the Boulders/Incoming Chomps to create a Launch Star that takes him to the Bean Planet. A very interesting note is that this planet has a different color appearance when it is first seen, but ends up with a recolor in the final version of the game. It was originally supposed to be blue.
Bean Planet[]
This planet, also known as the Flatland Planet, is a small grassy planet with one Piranha Plant and a few Slurples as its only dangers, since Mario cannot fall off this planet due to its strong gravity. It is shaped like a bean. On the bottom side of this planet, there is a Question Coin which creates many Star Bits leading back to the Piranha Plant. Mario can get here after using the Launch Star from the Boulder Planet, however to leave here, he must stomp or Spin the Piranha Plant, which defeats it and makes a Sproutle Vine appear. Mario can climb the vine by shaking the Wii Remote which sends him to the Bitten Apple Planet.
Bitten Apple Planet[]
The Bitten Apple Planet, hence the name, resembles a giant green bitten apple. There are Boulders rolling all over the planet. There is also a Prickly Piranha Plant at the top. There is a Black Hole in the middle of the planet which makes Mario lose a life. On this planet, there are several ways to leave here. The first choice is to advance to the very end of the planet and battle a Prickly Piranha Plant which reveals a Sproutle Vine leading to the Block-Climb Planet. The other choice is to go across a Shrinking Tile and use the Warp Pipe with the Piranha Plant in it to get to the Flipswitch Planet.
Flipswitch Planet[]
This planet is covered in Flipswitches that can be accessed by using the Warp Pipe on the Bitten Apple Planet. There are many Flipswitches here, and if Mario wants to proceed, he must press all Flipswitches in an area before the next area appears. After activating all Flipswitches, a Launch Star to the Block-Climb Planet appears.
Block-Climb Planet[]
This planet is accessed by either launching off the Flipswitch Planet and landing here, or taking the Sproutle Vine that appears after the Prickly Piranha Plant on the Bitten Apple Planet is defeated, and jumping here. This planet is a grassy oval with three stone blocks on it and Octoombas guarding the rocks. There are some Coins on the blocks which serve as steps to the very top where a Launch Star awaits to take Mario to the Geo Planet. In an opening to the side of the planet is a 1-Up Mushroom. There is also a Luma and several Starbags here as well.
Dino Geo Planet[]
The Dino Geo Planet or Geo Planet is a small round planet that serves as the last planet visited in the missions "Dino Piranha" and "Dino Piranha Speed Run". It is the planet where Mario battles Dino Piranha. The planet is basically a brown, oval-shaped planet with several yellow lights, that when shot with a Star Bit, release a Coin and several Item Crystals with Coins and Star Bits trapped inside. On top of the planet is a giant egg that Mario cracks open when he lands here. Dino Piranha hatches and the battle begins. After defeating Dino Piranha by spinning the bulb at the end of his tail, a Power Star will appear here.
Pear Planet[]
This planet is a pear-shaped planet covered in grass that is accessed in the missions "A Snack of Cosmic Proportions" and "Purple Coin Omelet". There are several Star Bits trapped in Item Crystals here all over the planet along with some Goombas and Spiky Plants. There is a Launch Star to the Rock Planet here.
Rock Planet[]
This planet is a giant red rock with Boulders rolling all over it. It is accessible via using the Launch Star on the Pear Planet. The Launch Star here takes Mario to the Egg Planet. This planet also has some Item Crystals and a Question Block. There is also a Sling Star that will blast Mario into a Coin.
Egg Planet[]
This planet is a giant planet that resembles a green Yoshi Egg with many Goombas wandering all over it. There are also several Item Crystals. It is part of the three-planet maze involving the Rock Planet and Pear Planet. The Launch Star on this planet takes Mario to the Pear Planet, and the planet is accessed by using the Launch Star on the Rock Planet. The most important thing on this planet is a Hungry Luma who wants and must be fed 100 Star Bits to transform into a new planet that is needed to complete "A Snack of Cosmic Proportions", the Tower Planet.
Tower Planet[]
This planet is made by feeding the Hungry Luma on the Egg Planet 100 Star Bits. It is shaped like a giant mountain with many stone platforms that Mario must jump up to reach the top. The enemies here are Goombas and Spiky Plants. The Spiky Plants can be defeated by using (to use them, Spin near them) the rubbery, green Stretch Plants. At the very top of the many stone platforms is a Launch Star to the Pill Planet. An almost identical planet with the same name appears in the Yoshi Star Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, however, the planet is already accessible from the start in that galaxy, unlike how this one is made by a Hungry Luma.
Pill Planet[]
This planet is the largest planet in the galaxy, or may be the same size as the Magma Planet where King Kaliente is fought. It is shaped like a giant transparent pill with many enemies and obstacles on the inside including different sections where the Gravity is shifted around. Red Gravity means it is going up and away from the core, while blue Gravity means it is going down and towards the core. When Mario first arrives here, he lands on the transparent outside of the planet after using the Launch Star on the Tower Planet. Mario must destroy an Item Crystal here to get inside the planet. After making his way through all the obstacles, he will encounter the Launch Star which will take him to the final planet of "A Snack of Cosmic Proportions", the Star Planet.
Star Planet[]
This is the last planet of "A Snack of Cosmic Proportions", which resembles a giant yellow Sling Star. To get to the Power Star, Mario must first collect five blue Star Chips to create a set of five Pull Stars, one on each corner of the planet. Using the Pull Stars, Mario must reach the Power Star in the center of the planet. He can also Long Jump and Spin to get the Power Star.
Tropic Planets[]
The Tropic Planets are a pair of planets with Spiky Plants and Coconuts which can be put to different uses depending on which planet Mario is on. The planets are made of a combination of sand and grass with scattered palm trees and Crates everywhere. On the first Tropic Planet, there are many Spiky Plants which Mario can destroy by Spinning a Coconut into them. However, to access the next Tropic Planet, Mario must destroy a tremendous Spiky Plant at the top to make a Sling Star. The second Tropic Planet has several Goombas and a Pokey. When the Pokey comes to the surface, Mario must hit its head with a Coconut or hit its body, which destroys a body segment, bringing the Pokey's head closer to the ground. Then Mario must Spin its head or Spin a Coconut into its head to defeat it, making a Launch Star appear to the Saucer Planet. The first Tropic Planet is accessed by blasting off the Starting Planet in "King Kaliente's Battle Fleet".
Water Planets[]
The Water Planets are small rocks in the sky surrounded by water which float all around the Tropic Planets. They are inaccessible during regular missions, but through hacking, Mario can visit them, as they have their own gravity field. Other than that, they are mostly for decoration while Mario soars past them on the way to the Saucer Planet.
Saucer Planet[]
This planet is a large grass-covered planet that is accessible via the Launch Star from the Tropic Planets. It has an Item Crystal with a Launch Star trapped inside at the very end that takes the player to the Airships. Enemies here are Octoombas, Bill Blasters and their Bullet Bills, Incoming Chomps and Rocket Engines which make the planet much more difficult to cross. Probably, the biggest difficulty are the electric barriers placed throughout the planet that Mario must cross. Once Mario reaches the end, he can release and then use the Launch Star that takes him to the Airships.
Airships[]
There are two Airships floating in space in this galaxy. They are both commanded by King Kaliente and have many enemies on them. The first Airship is accessed by using the Launch Star from the Saucer Planet. It has two Octopuses that fire Coconuts and Fireballs from the second Airship when Mario gets near. After Mario defeats both of them, the path to the bridge is opened. At the end of the bridge, there is a Sling Star that takes Mario into the main section of the ship where several Octoombas will attack. If Mario takes the Launch Star located on this ship, he will travel to the Magma Planet where he battles the commander of the Airships, King Kaliente.
Asteroid Planet[]
This planet is a small, optional planet accessible from the Saucer Planet with two Incoming Chomps rolling around on it. The only thing here, other than the Incoming Chomps, is a Warp Pipe that takes Mario to the inside of the planet. This (the planet's interior) is a room with many Goombas and a Rainbow Star to help Mario defeat the Goombas and receive Star Bits. In the beta version of this game, there were many planets like this one.
Magma Planet[]
The Magma Planet is an enormous stone planet with a pool of lava in the middle, which is home to the boss of the level "King Kaliente's Battle Fleet", King Kaliente. This is the location of the boss battle, where King Kaliente emerges from the lava and fires Coconuts and Fireballs at Mario. This planet is made mostly of black tar and rock mixed together by the gigantic pool of burning hot lava in the middle. The rest of the planet is just hot rock. This planet is quite large as compared to others like the Tropic Planets, since it needs to have a decently large area for the battle to be held. Underneath the planet (the planet's underside), is a rocky area where Mario lands after taking the Launch Star from the Airships. Here, (the underside) is a rocky area with yellow rings on it like a target, which resembles a chocolate donut.
Missions[]
Dino Piranha[]
This mission is originally known as "Prehistoric Piranha", Mario lands on the light side of the Starting Planet. Mario will find lots of grass, and Octoombas guarding the door of a house (which does not open for nothing). The gravity on this planet is strong, so Mario cannot fall off the planet. He should run to the other side (the dark side), where it is all dark with a castle-like object. Mario must climb the tower, avoiding or defeating the Goomba, and talk to the Luma to get to a Sling Star which sends him to a Launch Star. This Launch Star takes Mario to the Boulder Planet. This is a peanut-shaped planet with Boulders rolling on it, mostly over mud. To continue his journey, Mario must collect five Star Chips here to form a Launch Star that takes him to the Bean Planet. Here, on this planet, Mario must defeat a Piranha Plant to make a Sproutle Vine emerge from the ground. By shaking the Wii Remote near the vine, Mario will Spin up the vine and land on the Bitten Apple Planet where he has two ways to go. Mario should search for a Prickly Piranha Plant, a large purple Piranha Plant with a spiked stem while avoiding Boulders and defeating Slurples. It will slam its head on the grouund when Mario nears it. Mario should stomp its head to defeat it and a Sproutle Vine will appear to the Block-Climb Planet. Mario's other way is to jump on a Shrinking Tile then back onto the floor and defeat a Piranha Plant behind the Shrinking Tile. Mario can now access a Warp Pipe taking him to the Flipswitch Planet. Here, Mario must press all Flipswitches to get to the Block-Climb Planet. This planet has two areas. Mario will land on the first area where he must press all Flipswitches to unlock the second area. Mario must use his powers of jumping in the second part. After all Flipswitches are pressed, a Launch Star appears, taking Mario to the Block-Climb Planet. Here, there are stone blocks stacked on top of each other with Octoombas on them. On the planet's underside is a Starbag that Mario can defeat to get many Star Bits. Mario must climb the blocks on this planet, avoiding/defeating the Octoombas there and Spin an Item Crystal to release the Launch Star. This Launch Star takes Mario to the Dino Geo Planet, or otherwise, the Geo Planet. Mario will land on an egg, cracking it. To open the egg fully, Mario should spin the round bulb on a tail. This opens the egg, releasing the prehistoric beast. Mario must spin the tail two more times to defeat Dino Piranha, releasing a Power Star. Mario can then collect his Power Star. Every time Dino Piranha is hit, he releases a mass of Star Bits for Mario to collect.

A Snack of Cosmic Proportions[]
This level includes feeding a Hungry Luma 100 Star Bits so Mario should find every way possible to collect Star Bits, whether it is Star Bits trapped in Item Crystals, Spinning/running into flowers or small plants, collecting scattered Star Bits with the Star Cursor, or spinning into an enemy. A great way to get 100 Star Bits is to use the Star Cursor instead of running into the Star Bits. Anyway, Mario will begin on the light side of the Starting Planet (as usual). Here, there are constant comets that come in contact with the planet releasing three Star Bits. They sound like when an enemy releases Star Bits after being defeated, so Mario should listen carefully. While collecting every Star Bit in sight and spinning every enemy in his way, Mario must make his way to the dark side of the planet and run to the end of the stone path where there is a blue Luma who transforms into a Pull Stars leading to the Launch Star. Mario should take the Launch Star into the a 3-planet circle with a maze of Launch Stars. The planets in this circle are the Pear Planet, Rock Planet, and Egg Planet. Mario will land on the Pear Planet. He must use his Spin move to release Star Bits trapped in Item Crystals, while Spinning enemies for Star Bits. He must then take the Launch Star to the Rock Planet. There are Boulders here, which Mario can destroy for lots of Star Bits. Mario should then take the Launch Star to the Egg Planet. Here, Mario should NOT take the Launch Star, for it will take him back to the Pear Planet. Mario should instead look for a Hungry Luma. He should feed it 100 Star Bits. Elated as can be, the Hungry Luma transforms into the Tower Planet leaving a pink Launch Star behind. Mario should climb to top of the planet and take the Launch Star to the Pill Planet. He will land on the planet's transparent covering (outside). Mario should Spin an Item Crystal to find a hole in the crystal's place, leading to the planet's inside. There are two types of gravity changes here. Blue means the gravity is going down, while red means the gravity is going up. Using the two types wisely, Mario should avoid the enemies and obstacles here to make it to the Launch Star that will send him to the Star Planet. On this planet, Mario must find five blue Star Chips to make a set of five Pull Stars on each of the planet's corners appear. Using the Pull Stars, Mario must make his way to the center of the planet to collect the Power Star, or he could Long Jump and Spin to get it.

King Kaliente's Battle Fleet[]
Mario will land, once again, on the light side of the Starting Planet. The Launch Star is on top of the house. Mario can either Triple Jump to get up there, or he can enter an orange Warp Pipe on the dark side and make his way through the room to another Warp Pipe. Up on the peaceful house's roof, is the Launch Star. It will take Mario to the Tropic Planets, where Mario lands on the first planet. A Toad will tell Mario that Spiky Plants hate Coconuts. Mario must search for a humongous Spiky Plant and Spin a Coconut into it. It will make a Sling Star appear once defeated, taking Mario to the second and last Tropic Planets. Here, a Pokey will emerge from the ground. Mario must Spin a Coconut into it, to destroy a body segment. When the Pokey's head is close enough, Mario can Spin its head to defeat it. This makes a Launch Star appear to the Saucer Planet. Ok, on this planet, there are several things Mario must avoid: the Octoombas, Bullet Bills, Rocket Engines, Bill Blasters, Incoming Chomps and electric barriers. Here has a Sling Star taking Mario to a planet full of electric barriers. After using the Sling Star, Mario must make his way to the other side of the planet, where there are Bullet Bills being fired from Bill Blasters. The Launch Star is trapped in an Item Crystal on top of the structure on this planet. After releasing and using the Launch Star, Mario will land on an Airship. Two Octopuses will fire Coconuts and Fireballs at Mario from the second Airship in front of Mario. Mario must Spin the Coconuts back at them to defeat them. This lowers the bridge between the two ships. The Launch Star is on this Airship that takes Mario to the Magma Planet. Mario can defeat King Kaliente by Spinning the Coconuts he shoots at Mario back at him. After he is defeated, Mario can collect his Power Star.

Dino Piranha Speed Run[]
This mission is available when a Speedy Comet is in orbit of this galaxy. Gameplay is the same as in "Dino Piranha" however there is a four minute time limit to get the Power Star or Mario will lose a life. If Mario defeats Dino Piranha and collects the Power Star before time runs out, he will complete the level. During this mission, on the Boulder Planet, there are Incoming Chomps instead of Boulders, making level completion more difficult.

Purple Coin Omelet[]
This mission is only available when a Purple Comet is in orbit of the galaxy. In this mission, Mario must collect 100 Purple Coins scattered about the Pear Planet, Rock Planet, and Egg Planet. Mario will not be able to visit the Tower Planet. Unlike other Purple Coin missions (with the exception of "Purple Coins in the Woods"), the Coins follow a linear path. Simply follow the trail of Purple Coins, take the Launch Star, then take the Launch Star in midair, follow the path of Purple Coins on the next planet, etc. He must repeat the process, and eventually, Mario will have 100 Purple Coins and collect his Power Star.

Luigi in the Roof[]
Shortly after Mario rescues Luigi from the Ghostly Galaxy, Mailtoad will tell Mario that Luigi is lost and gives him a postcard of where he is. The player can work out that Luigi is in the Good Egg Galaxy. To complete this hidden star mission, Mario must replay "Dino Piranha". Luigi is on the roof of the house on the Starting Planet. An easy way to get here, is to Triple Jump and Spin, however, Mario can also enter an orange Warp Pipe on the dark side and make his way to a Warp Pipe inside. He will then be on the roof of the house. Mario should just talk to Luigi to collect his Power Star.

Other Appearances[]
The Good Egg Galaxy is a stage in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. It is the stage that features Dream Event: Dream Ski Jumping. The galaxy features Airships, the Starting Planet, three Star Planets, other blue-crystal like things, the Water Planets and a Black Hole. The objective is to gather points in Star Bits. There are three types of Star Bits. Green Star Bits are worth 10 points, purple Star Bits are worth 30 points, and the rare orange ones are worth 50 points. There are also item blocks which can be used for further advantage in the event. In addition, there are also "Star Gates" on the galaxy. If the player goes through three Star Gates, he will be invincible and any points given to the player by collecting Star Bits is doubled for a short time.
Trivia[]
- Unlike most galaxies, it gets its name from a single planet.
- It is the largest galaxy in the game of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, outnumbering the other galaxies in both games with the number of planets. This galaxy has 19 planets.
- However, out of all planets, 3 are average-sized; the others being below average in size.
- It is notable that the original E3 demo and gameplay footage mostly featured segments from the Good Egg Galaxy, along with a mixed-level from the Space Junk Galaxy.
- There is a completely black planet that can be only reached in the third mission. If the player uses cheat codes to reach the planet in other missions, there is only a pipe leading to an endless pit, therefore teaching curious players a lesson. This planet is actually the Asteroid Planet, but because it is not the mission in which the planet appears, the pipe does not lead to the bonus area since it is nonexistent in the other missions.
- Several Gusty Garden Galaxy planets were found in this galaxy in a beta version of the game.
- The galaxy's theme plays in the Grandmaster Galaxy of SMG 2's level, "The Perfect Run". This is along with the Gusty Garden Galaxy theme, Bowser's Galaxy Reactor theme, and the Comet Observatory theme.
- A remix of the music is found in World 1's map after Green Power Star comets appear.
