FlutterFlyAway-1-

The Kongs on a moving Tiki Buzz attached to a platform in Flutter Flyaway.

Flutter Flyaway is the thirty-first level of Donkey Kong Country Returns as well as the third level of the Forest (Donkey Kong Country Returns). The level is set in a forest where Tiki Buzzes and Tiki Torks are trapped inside wooden cages which are attached to wooden platforms that the Kongs (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong) can stand on. However, the Tiki Buzzes and Tiki Torks still the ability to fly. The Kongs must carefully hop from one Tiki Buzz/Tiki Tork to another. Tiki Torks and Tiki Buzzes move in set patterns mostly along vines, however some are not on vines. Most of their patterns are shaped like the number 8, sometimes tilted sideways (therefore it is more like an infinity (the math one), however, some patterns are circular. Howevers, the Tiki Torks and Tiki Buzzes fly near Spikes and other enemies such as purple Skittlers hanging on their webs, which can become a problem. These Tiki Buzzes cannot be defeated, however, they cannot harm the Kongs. Enemies in this level include red and yellow Chomps, purple and brown Skittlers, and Tiki Goons. Also, many vines are can be seen around the entire level (they are on of the main obstacles, for the trapped Tiki Buzzes and Tiki Torks also travel on these), some in the background, some loose, and of course as the trapped enemies paths. In Time Attack mode, a time of 1:49:00 is needed to get a gold medal, a time of 1:59:00 for a silver medal, and a time of 2:17:00 for a bronze medal.

Overview

Untitled picture1

The Kongs about to land on the Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform shortly after the DK Barrel on the Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform.

The level begins with the Kongs landing on a wooden a floor with a large log-like object behind them that serves as a wall. Shortly ahead is a strange tulip-like object that has a propeller attached to it. When this object is blown, it spills water until its propeller breaks off (it continues to spill water like a fountain after this). This causes a vine to grow in the background and produce three flowers: one holds a Banana Coin, another holds a Banana, and the last holds a Banana Bunch. Anyway, after this tulip-like object spilling water, the path goes up a small slope a bit and ends near a large strange plant (the ones from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns)) that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. Not too far after this strange plant is a large gap with a Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform flying up and down. A DK Barrel is on the wooden platform attached this Tiki Tork trapped in its cage. The Kongs can jump here. A yellow Chomp is above a gap next to the Tiki Tork attached to the wooden platform with the DK Barrel, however, there are two Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms just after it. An easy way to avoid touching the yellow Chomp when it jumps (yellow Chomps make four chomp attacks before they make a jumping chomp attack, red Chomps make three chomp attacks before jumping) is not to jump over it when it is chomping, but to use the DK Barrel and throw it at it when the yellow Chomp jumps. This takes out the enemy, where it is gone for good...unless you go further and come back to its location. Anyway, the Kongs should jump to the first Tiki Buzz attached to the wooden platform which is moving up and down. Here, the apes can then jump to the second Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform which is also moving up and down to find a Tiki Tork attached to a large wooden platform next to it. However, jumping to it isn't that easy, for a purple Skittler hangs on a web and moves up and down, much like these two Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms. The wooden platform attached to the Tiki Tork has a Tiki Goon on it, and the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters moves up and down above it, following the same motion as the Tiki Tork (when the Tiki Tork flies up, the letter K moves up, and vice versa). Anyway, avoiding the Skittler on its web, the apes can jump to this Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform with a Tiki Goon on it. There is a Skittler also on the other side of this platform, which also moves up and down. After the Skittler, there is a Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform that moves up and down. Avoiding the Skittler, the apes can jump onto the wooden platform attached to the Tiki Buzz. Here, two Tiki Torks attached to wooden platforms move quite close to each other up and down a vine that is shaped like the number 8 (you won't notice this until you get on one of these wooden platforms attached to a Tiki Tork and let it take you around). When a wooden platform attached to a Tiki Tork nears the apes, they should jump onto it. The Tiki Tork will take the Kongs another Tiki Tork attached to a large wooden platform with a Skittler hanging on its web, who moves side to side, however, the Tiki Tork can also take the apes to a Puzzle Piece to the left of this wooden platform attached to the Tiki Tork. The apes can jump to the Puzzle Piece, however, they must try not to die and land on another Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform. Anyway, on the wooden platform attached to the Tiki Tork with the Skittler hanging above it (it is best to jump on the Skittler to let it fall, and then jump on it again to defeat it), there is a gap ahead with a Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform that moves up and down. The apes can jump here. There is another Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform after this platform and it moves up down, however, the opposite direction of the first Tiki Buzz attached to the wooden platform. So, when the first Tiki Buzz flies up, the second flies down and vice versa, much like the previous pair. Anyway, on the second Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform, the primates can find a Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform moving along a circular vine. The apes can jump here to find a skull Barrel Cannon above a gap to the right of this circular vine in which the Tiki Tork attached to the wooden platform moves along (skull Barrel Cannons/Auto-Fire Barrels destroy themselves (explode) after firing the Kongs). Anyway, the apes can jump inside the skull Barrel Cannon where they can see another skull Barrel Cannon. The apes can fire to this skull Barrel Cannon, where they can find a third skull Barrel Cannon. After firing to this skull Barrel Cannon, it aims at a curling vine. When the apes fire, they fall, bouncing back and forth

between four curling vines. After this, the primates land on a floor with a large and small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, some propeller-like plants (also from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns)) which can be blown on for a collectible, most likely and the Tutorial Pig hosting the first checkpoint. The primates can head left and jump onto a large tree stump over a gap next to a yellow Chomp. The large tree stump holds a tulip-like object with a propeller attached to it that can be blown on to cause it spill water. When its propeller breaks off, a vine grows in the background and produces three flowers:one holding a Banana Coin, another a Banana, and the third holding a Banana Bunch. Next to the yellow Chomp next to this large tree stump is an opening that LOOKS like it can take the Kongs into a Bonus Room, but if the apes try getting in here, they die and lose an Extra Life Balloon. YOU MEAN, IT'S A FAKE!!! Yep, the real Bonus Room is hidden further on (keep reading on to find out where). Anyway, shortly after the checkpoint, at the end of the floor, is a gap with a large tree stump (or log, whatever you want to call it) that separates a red Chomp from a yellow Chomp. The tree stump/log holds a DK Barrel. Carefully jumping over the red Chomp, the heroes can jump here. Here, they can see a floor after the yellow Chomp that so far has a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, on it and the letter O is high above it. A brown Skittler can be seen coming down from its web and landing on the floor. It heads the apes direction, however it falls into the gap with the yellow Chomp. Anyway, carefully jumping over the yellow Chomp, the apes should jump onto this floor. Here the apes can find two propeller-like plants and a tulip-like object that can be blown on for collectibles. The tulip-like object spills water when blown on, and when its propeller breaks off, a vine grows in the background and creates three flowers with the same collectibles as the previous two (Banana Coin, Banana, Banana Bunch). However, as the apes blow these objects, they must watch out for brown Skittlers who drop down from their webs and approach them. However, these enemies can be defeated with a single jump. Shortly after the tulip-like object, at the end of the floor, there is a gap with a Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform that moves along a circular vine. The apes can jump here. Here, another Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform will repeated pass by this Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform which the Kongs are on, as it circles the circular vine. There are some spikes on a ceiling not too high above its path. When the Kongs jump onto the wooden platform attached to this Tiki Tork, they must duck to avoid the spikes on the ceiling before they jump to a large, red, springy mushroom, which they can bounce on. Here, the apes have two routes they can take. There is a circular vine covered in grassy turf high above the apes with another congruent (exactly the same as the first circular vine, with grassy turf and everything) which can be reached with the help of the springy mushroom. There is also another large, red, springy mushroom below this first springy mushroom slightly to the right of it. If the apes ignore the circular vine, they can go onto the second springy mushroom, where they will find a Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform that moves along a circular vine. Next to this Tiki Buzz attached to the wooden platform are two Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms that move along a circular vine. There are spikes not too high above the circular vine. Anyway, if the apes use the first springy mushroom to bounce to the circular (or curling, whatever you want to call it) vine and cling onto it, they can jump and cling onto the circular/curling vine covered in grassy turf next to it. Here, a Puzzle Piece can be found above this circular vine's top which can be collected with a jump. Here, the Kongs can now cling down to the bottom of this circular/curling vine covered in grassy turf. Here, they are above the first Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform that moves along a circular vine. The primates can try to drop down onto the Tiki Buzz, for they cannot really see when it is coming near them (at the bottom of this circular/curling vine covered in grassy turf less than half the Tiki Buzz's circular vine path can be seen). If the apes miss, they will land on a third large, red, springy mushroom (read on to figure out what the springy mushroom is really there for!) which can help them bounce onto the Tiki Buzz attached to the wooden platform. Here, the apes can jump onto one of the two Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms moving along a circular vine next to this first Tiki Buzz, however they must duck as they approach the spikes. Really, there is a floor beneath these two Tiki Buzzes moving along their vine, even though it cannot be seen at all. The apes can drop here to find a strange circular, manhole-shaped object attached to the floor at the very end of it, which is near a wall. If the apes pound on this manhole-object, just like it would do, it flips over and lets the Kongs enter the REAL Bonus Room of the level. So, the third springy mushroom is there to help the Kongs get back on track from the Bonus Room, for the third springy mushroom is just over a gap to the left of this floor, above it. Anyway, the apes, from the two Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platform moving along a circular vine can jump to a small floor with a large strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. Here, there is a gap just after this, however, a Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform moves along a circular vine above it. The apes can jump here, to find a group of three Tiki Buzzes attached to moving platforms, which move along a circular vine. A Puzzle Piece is in the middle of the circular vine (the Tiki Buzzes, like every other Tiki Buzz/Tiki Tork orbit the edges of the circular vines), and this is how it can be reached. If the apes jump to one of the three Tiki Buzzes attached to a wooden platform, they can drop from it, land into the Puzzle Piece, which automatically collects it, and land on another Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform, most likely (you might have to some moving or hovering in the air to land on another Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform). Anyway, a large, red mushroom without its spring is right after this area with the three Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platform. The heroes can head onto this bouncy mushroom to find a circular vine with almost exactly as the previous (three Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms orbit its edges), however, instead of a Puzzle Piece, the letter N is in the middle of the circular vine, and requires the same tactic as the Puzzle Piece to be collected. After the apes land on one of the three Tiki Buzzes, they will near another large, red, mushroom without its spring bottom. They can jump here to find a Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform moving along a circular vine. The apes can bounce and hover themselves onto this wooden platform attached to a Tiki Tork. They will near a floor that can be jumped onto, however, the primates must watch out for a yellow Chomp just before this floor. Carefully, the apes should jump onto this floor. Here, the Kongs will find a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, and a Tiki Goon that can be jumped on to be defeated. At the end of this floor, the apes can find a gap with a large, red, springy mushroom that separates a red Chomp from a yellow Chomp. Carefully avoiding the red Chomp, the apes should jump onto this springy mushroom. A large ring of

Bananas with a smaller ring inside of of Bananas inside of it moves in a circular motion above this springy mushroom. If the duo collect every single Banana moving in a circular motion above this springy mushroom, a Puzzle Piece appears. There is a floor right after the yellow Chomp that holds two Tiki Goons, a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, and three propeller-like plants that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely. Carefully avoiding the yellow Chomp, the apes should jump onto this floor. They can defeat the Tiki Goons, as always with a jump. After this floor, there is a gap with a Barrel Cannon above it, and a skull Barrel Cannon is right after it. HOLD IT, DON'T EVEN THINK OF JUMPING INTO THAT BARREL CANNON!!!! There is a Puzzle Piece right after the Barrel Cannon underneath it, however, it is slightly before the skull Barrel Cannon. So, the apes have two choices. If they feel they cannot get that Puzzle Piece (even though trying is worth it), they can hop into the Barrel Cannon and fire into the skull Barrel Cannon. Or, if the apes want to give a shot, they can roll-jump into the gap and jump. If done correctly, the primates will collect the Puzzle Piece and enter the skull Barrel Cannon. Anyway, this skull Barrel Cannon aims at a round part of a tree, with Bananas and a Banana Coin forming its firing path. When the apes fire, they smash right into the tree, causing it to be destroyed and fall into the gap below. After smashing into the tree, the apes land on a floor. The floor heads up a small hill before it leads the Kongs to the Tutorial Pig hosting the second checkpoint on a large tree stump/log attached to the floor. A gap is ahead and has a platform with a DK Barrel on it, however, a red Chomp is before it. Carefully avoiding the red Chomp, the apes can jump onto this platform. There is a gap just after this platform, however, a group of four Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms move up and down a vine path shaped like a number 8 pointing northeast. The first three Tiki Buzzes have collectibles on their wooden platforms attached to them, while the fourth Tiki Buzz has a larger platform, but nothing is on it. The order of collectibles on each of the first three Tiki Buzzes' platforms is a Banana Bunch, a Banana Coin, and a Banana Bunch. There is a purple Skittler that just hangs on its web not too high above the Tiki Buzzes' vine path and just swings side to side. Anyway, the apes can jump onto one of these four wooden platforms attached to the four Tiki Buzzes, and be taken towards another purple Skittler swinging not too high above the Tiki

Buzzes' vine path. The apes can jump on this enemy to get rid of it, and then get back on another wooden platform attached to one of the four Tiki Buzzes. However, the duo must soon jump onto another group of four Tiki Buzzes with wooden platforms attached to them. The Tiki Buzzes move along a vine shaped like a sideways number 8, or otherwise, an infinity sign. Like before, the first three Tiki Buzzes carry collectibles on their platforms from Banana Bunch to Banana to Banana Bunch in that order. Also, the fourth Tiki Buzz has a larger platform, but there is nothing on it. A Skittler hangs on its web and swings back and forth not too high above the Tiki Buzzes' vine path. The Tiki Buzzes can carry the Kongs to a large, red mushroom without its spring bottom, however, the heroes must duck to avoid some spikes on a ceiling just before this. The apes can now jump onto the bouncy mushroom, which has a small ring of Bananas moving in a circular motion above it. If every Banana is collected, a Banana Coin is rewarded to the Kongs. After this springy mushroom, there are two Tiki Torks attached to wooden platforms that move up and down a vine shaped like a number 8. A Skittler is top of the number 8-shaped vine, which can be bounced on to reach a Puzzle Piece high above it. Anyway, the Tiki Torks can take the Kongs to a large, red, springy mushroom beneath a ceiling covered in spikes. The apes can jump from the Tiki Torks here. A group of four Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms move along a vine shaped like a number 8 pointing northeast. Like before, the first three Tiki Buzzes have collectibles on their wooden platforms, this time, going from Banana Bunch, to letter G, to Banana Bunch. The fourth Tiki Buzz still holds nothing on its wooden platform, however, its platform is much smaller than in the previous two, for it it the same size as the first three Tiki Buzzes' wooden platforms. Anyway, the apes can jump on one of the four wooden platforms attached to one of the four Tiki Buzzes. They can get a ride towards a large, red mushroom without its springy bottom. Another large, red mushroom is after this first bouncy mushroom, and both have a small ring of Bananas moving in a circular motion. The apes can jump from the Tiki Buzzes onto the first bouncy mushroom where they can collect all the Bananas moving in a circular motion above it for a Banana Coin. Now, the heroes can jump onto the second mushroom. Here, the duo can bounce on the mushroom and collect all the Bananas moving above it in a circular motion for a Banana Coin. A Skittler is above a gap after this mushroom, and there is a third large, red mushroom without its spring bottom that also has a small ring of Bananas moving in a circular motion above it. The apes can jump, or bounce onto the Skittler to get onto this third mushroom. Here, they can collect all of the Bananas moving in a circular motion above it for a Banana Coin. After this third mushroom, there is a Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform that moves along a circular vine. The apes can jump here to notice another Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform moving along a circular vine below them slightly to the right. There is a spiked ceiling not too high above the Tiki Tork's vine path. When it nears the Kongs, they should jump onto the Tiki Tork's wooden platform and duck to avoid the spikes on the ceiling. The apes can then jump onto a Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform that moves along a circular vine when it nears them. Here, the apes can find a large, red mushroom without its spring. The apes can jump here where they will notice an area similar to the group of three Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms moving along a

circular vine while orbiting a Puzzle Piece/letter N, which they passed a while ago. However, the area is made of three Tiki Torks attached to wooden platforms moving along a circular vine while orbiting the level's Slot Machine Barrel. The apes can jump onto one of the three Tiki Torks attached to wooden platforms. Here, as with the two areas with the three Tiki Buzzes orbiting the Puzzle Piece/letter N, the Kongs can either jump into the Slot Machine Barrel from the side of it, jump into it from beneath it, or at least try and fall into it from above it. When the Slot Machine Barrel is hit, the level is complete.

Secrets

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K:
    Flutter Flyaway3-K-O-N-G Letter O.

The Kongs near the letter O.

The letter K can be seen in the air above the second Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform. There are three ways to reach it. The Kongs can either jump from the second Tiki Buzz attached to a wooden platform into the letter K, jump to the letter K on the wooden platform attached to the Tiki Tork, or high bounce off a Tiki Goon on the wooden platform attached to the Tiki Tork.
  • O: The area is above a floor shortly after the first checkpoint. A high-bounce off a brown Skittler or a jump/roll-jump from the log with the DK Barrel is required to reach it.
  • N: The letter N is immediately after the fourth Puzzle Piece. It is in the middle of a circular vine which a trio of Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms circle around, and the letter requires a jump from the side or below it to reach. It can also be reached if the apes fall from a Tiki Buzz's platform above the letter, however, the apes might have some moving/hovering to do to land on another Tiki Buzz's platform.
  • G: When the Kongs reach the first bouncy mushroom from the final Puzzle Piece, they should find a group of four Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms flying towards them along a vine. The second Tiki Buzz holds the letter G on its wooden platform.

Puzzle Pieces

  1. FlutterFlyaway265-1-

The apes are pulled towards the first Puzzle Piece.

As the Kongs cruise on the first group of two Tiki Torks attached to wooden platforms, which move along a vine shaped like the number 8, they should avoid jumping to another Tiki Tork attached to a wooden platform. The heroes will be pulled towards the Puzzle Piece nearby.
  2. Two circular/curling vines covered in grassy turf can be seen above the first two large, red, springy mushrooms after the letter O. With the help of a springy mushroom (bounce high and cling to reach here), the apes can get here where the second Puzzle Piece is above the top of the second circular/curling vine covered in grassy turf.
  3. When the duo reach the Tiki Buzz underneath the second circular/curling vine with the second Puzzle Piece, they should jump onto one of the two Tiki Buzzes' wooden platforms and drop into the gap below to land on a hidden floor. If the apes pound on a strange, manhole-like object at the very end of the floor to the right, they will enter a Bonus Room. Here, the apes must shoot between two Barrel Cannons to collect eighty Bananas and two Banana Coins while avoiding the Auto-Fire Barrel moving up and down in the center of the room, which can shoot them out of there. When everything is collected within thirty seconds, a Puzzle Piece appears that requires the Auto-Fire Barrel to be collected.
  4. The fourth Puzzle Piece is being orbited by three Tiki Buzzes attached to wooden platforms moving along a circular vine (therefore, the Puzzle Piece is in the middle of the vine). The Puzzle Piece can be reached by simply jumping to it and landing on another Tiki Buzz after doing so.
  5. When the Kongs reach a large, red, bouncy mushroom separating a red Chomp from a yellow Chomp, they can find two rings of Bananas moving in a circular motion above it. If every Banana is collected with the help of the springy mushroom, a Puzzle Piece appears above the mushroom that can be collected with a bounce. Hmmm, much like the Bonus Room minigame with the moving trampoline...
  6. The primates should avoid landing in the first Barrel Cannon before the second checkpoint and instead roll-jump under it to grab a Puzzle Piece. They can then land in the nearby skull Barrel Cannon that follows.
  7. Two Tiki Torks attached to wooden platforms can be moving up and down a vine shaped like a number 8 after the second checkpoint. There is a Skittler hanging on its web at the top of the number 8-shaped vine. If the apes high bounce on the Skittler after being carried to it, they will collect the seventh and final Puzzle Piece.
