Sidesteppers are obstacles and enemies in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. They are crabs that come in red and blue colors. In Mario Kart Wii, Sidesteppers only appear on Shy Guy Beach. Sidesteppers in this game are only red and have yellow highlights on their pincers. They walk to side to side on the sand. Crashing into them will cause the player to spin out. Sidesteppers could be defeated if an item (such as a Green Shell or Bob-omb) hits them. Doing such (defeating a number of Sidesteppers) was included in the tournament in August 2009. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Sidesteppers only appear in the Mario Bros. stage. They, along with Shellcreepers, come out of Warp Pipes at the top of the stage. They can be flipped over if players hit them from underneath the platform they are on. They can then be picked up and thrown at opponents to inflict decent Damage and Knockback, usuallly resulting in a KO (especially with high Handicap or Damage Ratio). If the Sidestepper that is flipped is not picked up in time, it will change into another color and move at a much faster rate, much like in the real Mario Bros. game. Touching Sidesteppers (or Shellcreepers) will cause players to also take great Damage and Knockback.
Sidestepper's Trophy in SSBB
Crabby enemies taken on by Mario and Luigi. One bump from below wouldn't flip them over, but rather anger them so they moved faster. These pests had to be bumped twice before they could be upended and kicked off the stage. If left alone, or if there was one left, their speed would increase. They went by the basic name of "crabs" in Japan.
