A Star KO is a KO found in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS and Wii U that happens when you knock an opponent upwards above the up blast line. They will appear screaming, yelling, etc and disappear as a star. You can get Star Koed by an upwards grab, an explosion, a Up Smash etc. You never get Koed until you disappear as a star. If you and an opponent had one life left and the opponent gets normal Koed and you get Star Koed, you will win. Sometimes you don't get Star Koed but instead hit the screen and fall off. This KO is called a Screen KO. Enemies and The Fighting Teams cannot be Star Koed, instead get Koed by hitting the upwards blast line. Giga Bowser (Melee only) can be Star Koed. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, it has been fixed that Star KOs and Screen KOs are the same length, therefore if one character gets Star KOed and another get Screen KOed at the same time, they will both be KOed at the same time, resulting in Sudden Death if this happens at the last stock of two characters. In this game and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, thanks to the new Upper Blast Line, characters will be normal KOed through an upper blast line more often than Star KOed or Screen KOed.
