Temple Topple is the twenty-first level in Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the sixth level of the Ruins (Donkey Kong Country Returns). This is the second level of the game to feature Rambi the Rhinoceros. With the help of Rambi, the Kongs (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong) can crash through spikes, large stone blocks and rock walls. Near the end of the level, the rock pathway begins to crumble and collapse shortly after being landed on, forcing the heroes the move fast. Luckily for the apes, the platforms do not fall if they are in the air. Other obstacles found in this level include red bouncy flowers (the same ones found in the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns) levels) and fiery rings that Rambi can jump through for prizes (most of the time just a lot of Bananas). However, if the Kongs fail to jump through the rings, they can get hurt, and can also die depending on the location of the ring and what's below them. Enemies in this level include Tiki Tanks, Hopgoons, and Tiki Bombers. In Time Attack mode, a time of 1:15:00 is needed to get a gold medal, a time of 1:34:00 for a silver medal and a time of 2:09:00 for a bronze medal.
OverviewThe level begins with the Kongs landing on a straight pathway that leads to a bridge that "slowly" goes upward. Behind the apes when they land, is an urn that can be pounded on for a collectible most likely, and a large stone block with a rhinoceros' head on it. Those are blocks that can only be broken with the help of Rambi. Anyway, after the bridge, the Kongs will soon reach a higher floor with a DK Barrel on it. There is also a wooden platform behind the Kongs. If they jump on it, they can jump on another higher wooden platform with a Tiki Tank on it. From there, the primates can jump into a skull Barrel Cannon which can fire the Kongs to a skull Auto-Fire Barrel (skull Barrel-Cannons/Auto-Fire Barrels destroy themselves after firing the Kongs). The Auto-Fire Barrel then fires the Kongs to another skull Auto-Fire Barrel, where the apes can collect many Bananas and Banana Bunches on the way. The skull Auto-Fire Barrel then fires the Kongs back to the floor, where the apes collect a few Bananas and a Puzzle Piece on the way down. The Kongs would land on a wooden bridge near to DK Barrel. In fact, the bridge is not very far at all from the DK Barrel, that if the apes ignored the wooden platforms behind them, they would be right on the bridge after moving forward a little, passing a Hopgoon and a Tiki Tank on the way. Anyway, a Tiki Tank will near the apes when they are on the bridge. An urn is on the edge of the floor connected to the bridge that can be pounded on for a collectible. After this, the Kongs will drop a little to a slightly lower floor with spikes in the center and a Tiki Tank on the opposite side of the Kongs. After passing the Tiki Tank, the Kongs can drop to a lower floor with a large gap of spikes in its center where a Tiki Tank roams about. WHAT!!! It's not fair they get to touch spikes without being hurt and we can't without losing a Heart!!! Anyway, after the gap, the Kongs will land on the other side of the floor where another gap of spikes is found, as well as a long wooden platform above the spikes with four Bananas on it. Right after the spikes, the Kongs can find an Animal Crate that holds Rambi inside. Not too far before the Animal Crate, is a part of floor that can the primates can pound to find the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters in the nearest section of spikes. If the Kongs pound on the Crate, they should find themselves on Rambi's back. After doing so, the three can head on to find a large group of spikes that Rambi can plow through. In the spikes, there is a raised part of floor that has a large hanging object not too far above it. Rambi can plow through this to destroy it and continue on. The three will plow through some more spikes until they reach a floor with a wooden bridge, a large hanging object not too far above it, and a Tiki Tank right after this object. Shortly after passing the Tiki Tank, the three will encounter a large wall of stone blocks on two raised parts of floor, the second higher than the first. Rambi can destroy these without a scratch on neither him or his riders. After destroying this wall, the three will plow through some more spikes and then land on a floor with an urn at its beginning. Now, just because the apes are on Rambi doesn't mean he can't pound. The urn can still be pounded on for a collectible, most likely, without the apes having to get off of Rambi and do it themselves. Anyway, directly after this, the Kongs find themselves on a wooden bridge heading downwards. The first ring of fire is above this ring that Rambi can jump through for a prize of many Bananas (probably the same amount a special Banana Bunch gives the apes). The Kongs will also pass a Tiki Tank on the way. After this, there is another wall of stone blocks. Here, the apes must quickly jump through another wall of stone blocks, for that wall causes the platforms the stone wall was on to fall and trap the Kongs in the gap below if they are not quick, which in turn makes the apes lose an Extra Life Balloon. After plowing through the second wall of stone blocks, the apes can jump again to reach the letter O, but they will hit a block (this doesn't mean they won't get the letter O, this happens all the time!) that is too strong to not fall, so the three end up falling on numerous large stone blocks and landing on a floor after that. Here, there are some more stone blocks: the bottom row has stone blocks with a rhinoceros' head on them and the stone blocks above trap Banana Bunches (some of them). There is also a part of floor similar to the one that covers the letter K, that can be pounded on so that the Kongs can find a hidden Bonus Room which is found right before the blocks. If the apes ignore the Bonus Room, after plowing through the stone blocks, they will land on some more stone blocks and fall to another floor. On the floor, the Kongs can find a wall, in which they would've broken through if they took the Bonus Room behind them, and some more stone blocks ahead of them. The ones (stone blocks) on the top, trap Banana Bunches. After plowing through the blocks, the three will plow through another Animal Crate and directly after that, they will plow through the Tutorial Pig who hosts the checkpoint. Here, the three will find themselves outside, where the rest of the level takes place. Anyway, the three can pass a Tiki Bomber on a destructible platform above them and two Hopgoons, however, the apes must be careful for if Rambi touches the Tiki Bomber's fireballs or any other thing that is fire, the apes will get hurt and dismount Rambi. They must then get back on Rambi to continue. Anyway, after the Hopgoons, the three will soon find a large head-like statue on top of a wall of stone blocks that can be plowed through. There is a strange plant (the ones from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns) that can be pounded on for a prize, most likely, and a Hopgoon right after it ahead. Immediately after the Hopgoon, is another destructible platform in the air with a Tiki Bomber on it and a Hopgoon after it. After the Kongs destroy the Tiki Bomber's platform and pass the Hopgoon, they will soon encounter another large head-like statue on some stone blocks that can be plowed through. Shortly after plowing through this, the three will encounter a large head-like statue on a large rectangular block, which in turn, is on a small brown floor. These are still no match for Rambi's strength, for they can easily be plowed through, allowing the three to use the brown platform for crossing. The large rectangular platform creates a bridge over a gap that leads to a floor with a Tiki Tank on it. After passing the Tiki Tank, the three will find another ring of fire in the air, which they can carefully jump through for a prize. Directly after the ring, is a Tiki Tank, and after the Tiki Tank is a DK Barrel. After the DK Barrel, the three will find a large, red, bouncy flower that can help them reach the letter N, which is high in the air. The three will land on a floor where another strange plant can be found. The plant can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. After the Kongs pass this plant, they will soon find a large hanging object not too high above the floor that can be destroyed with Rambi. There is another strange plant ahead at the edge of the floor where a slightly lower floor covered in spikes is found. A Tiki Tank walks on the spikes, and a large hanging object is not too far above the floor. After the spikes, the three can jump back onto a floor and defeat two Tiki Tanks to reach an area full of large, red, bouncy flowers. There are Bananas and Banana Bunches above the flowers all before a ring of fire. If all Bananas/Banana Bunches are collected and the Kongs have safely gone through the ring of fire, a special Banana Bunch appears slightly to the right of the last bouncy flower above it. After this, the apes will land on a floor with two Tiki Tanks, an Animal Crate, and two strange plants on opposite sides that can be pounded on for a prize on it. There is a beautiful fountain in the background here. The three can continue on to find another large head-like statue on a large rectangular block, which in turn, is on a brown platform. A strange plant is just before this, and it can be pounded on for a prize, most likely. When Rambi hits the block, the large block creates a bridge over a gap leading to the Tutorial Pig who hosts the checkpoint. An Animal Crate is after this. The madness begins from here. Shortly after the three plow through the Animal Crate, the three will end up on the crumbling platforms which crumble and fall soon after being landed/walked on. A ring of fire is above the platforms. This time, the Kongs MUST get through the ring, for if they touch the fire, they will die due to the falling platforms. Nope, no ands, ifs, or buts, YOU WILL DIE. After the crumbing platforms is a wall of stone blocks with an extremely tall structure (it is so tall, it's top cannot be seen) on top of the blocks. Rambi must quickly plow through this and land on some more crumbling platforms, for the wall of stone blocks causes the floor to fall with it. Anyway, Rambi will land on some more crumbling platforms with two Tiki Tanks on them. Right after the second Tiki Tank, the three must jump over a gap onto some more crumbling platforms with Bananas and a Banana Bunch forming a curved shape above the platforms. The three must soon then jump to a small floor with an Animal Crate and an urn that can be pounded on it. The three can rest here, for here does not fall with the animals' weight. The top of the tall structure can be seen here as it falls into the gap, by the way. Anyway, the Kongs must then jump onto a small floor of crumbling platforms with a Tiki Tank on them. They must then jump over a gap onto another small floor of crumbling platforms with a Hopgoon on it. The apes must then jump over another gap with the letter G above it, onto a third small floor of crumbling platforms with Bananas curving over the next gap. After jumping over that gap, the apes will land on a fourth small floor of crumbling platforms, where they must then jump to a wall of stone blocks with another extremely tall structure on top of it. The apes must quickly jump through this, and jump onto a single crumbling platform. Quickly, the apes must then jump onto a second crumbling platform and then cautiously jump over a gap with a ring of fire to land on a small floor of crumbling platforms. From here, the apes can then jump onto a large floor of crumbling platforms with two Tiki Tanks on it and some Bananas forming a curved shape above it. Here, the Kongs can then jump onto a medium-sized floor with the Slot Machine Barrel over it and an urn that can be pounded on for a prize near the opposite end. When the Slot Machine Barrel is hit, the level is complete.
- K: Right after the primates get Rambi, they should head backwards to the nearest section of spikes and pound the ground to reach the letter K.
- O: Shortly before the first checkpoint, the Kongs can find the letter O above a gap they must fall into to progress. The letter is near a block that cannot be knocked down.
- N: When the Kongs reach the first large, red, bouncy flower, they can use it to jump to the letter N that is high above it.
- G: Right after the final Animal Crate, the three run across an area of collapsing platforms. The letter G is between a gap of two crumbling platforms.
- From the first DK Barrel, the Kongs can jump to platform behind. If the Kongs jump to the second platform after this one, they can reach a skull Barrel Cannon, which blasts them to a skull Auto-Fire Barrel, which then fires the apes to another skull Auto-Fire Barrel. The Barrel blasts the Kongs into the Puzzle Piece.
- When the apes get on Rambi, they can head all the way back to the beginning of the level (where the apes land) and ram through the large stone block behind where the Kongs land to reach the second Puzzle Piece.
- Just before the first checkpoint, and before the first group of stone blocks after the Kongs fall down the gap, they can smash a platform to reach a hidden Bonus Room. Here, the apes must use a moving trampoline to collect many flying winged Bananas, normal moving Bananas and moving Banana Coins. If everything is collected within thirty seconds, a Puzzle Piece appears.
- After the first checkpoint the Kongs should pound the first strange plant for a Puzzle Piece.
- On the platform with the Slot Machine Barrel above it, there an urn that can be pounded on. When it breaks after being pounded on, it releases a Puzzle Piece. Getting here without hitting the Slot Machine Barrel isn't as easy as it sounds. Players must watch their jumps if they want to land here without touching the Slot Machine Barrel.
