The Kongs dodge a large group of Tiki Zings and Big Zings while holding onto a Wigglevine in Wigglevine Wonders.

Wigglevine Wonders is the thirty-fifth level in Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the seventh level in the Forest (Donkey Kong Country Returns). The level requires the use of Wigglevines to move across the level. Aside from the Wigglevines, normal vines, which are from Vine Valley, can also be found. The large Wigglevines, as shown in the picture to the right, can take the Kongs (Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong). However, the small wigglevines slowly descend and turn red, then launch themselves upward of of the screen. On many occasions throughout the level, the heroes have to dodge Tiki Zings and Big Zings as they ride over the large abysses on the large Wigglevines. So, to avoid the enemies, the Kongs must move up and down along the Wigglevines' vine as they carry them over the large abysses. Other enemies found in this level include Tiki Goons, Tiki Dooms, a single Vine Chomp and Shroom Chomps. In Time Attack mode, a time of 1:57:00 is needed to receive a gold medal, a time of 2:01:00 to earn a silver medal, and a time of 2:22:00 for a bronze medal.

Overview

640px-WigglevineWonders165-1-

The Kongs near the fungi platform at the very beginning of the level.

The level begins with the Kongs landing on a floor in front of what looks like a large tree. The apes can see a Banana Coin high in the air between two similar wooden objects. As they head forward, they will find a large fungi platform with a Tiki Goon walking on it. There is also a trail of four Bananas underneath this fungi platform. If the primates high bounce on the Tiki Goon, they can reach an area covered by leaves. Here, the apes can find a Puzzle Piece as well as a DK Barrel on a higher part of floor. After the DK Barrel, the Kongs can find a cracked wooden object in the floor above the Banana Coin that was seen previously. If the apes pound on this cracked wooden object a couple times, it breaks, causing the heroes to fall back to the floor they were previously on. Anyway, shortly after the large fungi platform, the heroes can find a large strange plant from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns), which can be pounded on for a Banana Bunch, and two propeller-like plants, also from the Jungle (Donkey Kong Country Returns), that can be blown on for a Banana. Shortly after the two propeller-like plants, the floor ends. A small vine can be seen swinging back and forth over a gap. The apes should grab on the vine. Here, they will find an awaiting large Wigglevine waiting on the Kongs to jump on it. When the vine the apes are on swings near the large Wigglevine, the heroes should jump onto it. As soon as the apes land on the large Wigglevine, it starts moving forward. Shortly after this, a moving trail of Bananas which is led by a strange winged Banana and ends with the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters nears the Kongs. The Kongs should be careful, because this trail of Bananas does not move in a straight path, it moves in a wavy path (up and down). So, the Kongs must be at a certain angle if they want to collect the letter K. More of these trails of Bananas beginning with a strange winged Banana will be seen throughout the level. Anyway, shortly after the letter K, the large Wigglevine stops nearby a small platform with a Tiki Goon, a large strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible most likely, and a propeller-like plant that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely. The apes should jump here and defeat the Tiki Goon. Not too far after the propeller-like plant, is the platform's end. A small Wigglevine can be seen in a small gap with a Banana Bunch and a Banana beneath it. The Kongs should BE CAREFUL with these dangerous Wigglevines, for these Wigglevines cannot hold them too long. When the heroes grab onto these Wigglevines, they descend (lower) and turn red. Shortly after this, their vines break, causing the heroes to fall to their death, most of the time (depending on what is below the small Wigglevines). A floor can also be seen to the right below the small Wigglevine. The heroes should grab onto the small Wigglevine's vine. As soon as it is beside the floor, the apes should jump off to avoid falling to their doom. Here, the apes can find a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. It is next to a higher part of floor. The Kongs can jump to this higher part of floor. They should notice that the entire area is covered in leaves. If the Kongs jump and head left from the higher part of floor, the leaves should move away, and the apes should find themselves on a small platform. Another similar platform is right above the platform the heroes are on. The Kongs should jump to this platform. There are two small Wigglevines to the right of this small platform, with a skull Auto-Fire Barrel after the two Wigglevines (skull Barrel Cannons and Auto-Fire Barrels destroy themselves after firing the Kongs) that can fire the apes into a Bonus Room . So, the objective for the apes here is to jump on the first small Wigglevine. Quickly, the Kongs should jump to the second small Wigglevine. Quickly, the apes should head into the skull Auto-Fire Barrel. Anyway, after the higher part of floor, there is a Tiki Doom and a large strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. There is a gap with a Shroom Chomp at the very end of this floor, and it is not too far after the large strange plant. The Shroom Chomp has its mouth open, as always, revealing its small, red mushroom tongue. Also, a vine swings back and forth above the Shroom Chomp's mouth. So, the Kongs must jump on the Shroom Chomp's small, red mushroom tongue and grab onto the swinging vine. The vine can take the heroes close to a small platform with a Tiki Goon on it. The Kongs should jump here. Here, they can see an Extra Life Balloon floating higher into the air next to a Shroom Chomp in a gap. The Extra Life Balloon can only be collected if the apes to everything swiftly from the previous Shroom Chomp. So, to get the Extra Life Balloon, the apes should jump on the previous Shroom Chomp's mouth, grab onto the vine, and jump and high bounce off of the Tiki Goon. The apes SHOULD get the Extra Life Balloon by doing so, but remember, you must be quick if you want to collect it. Anyway, a large Wigglevine is next to this second Shroom Chomp in the gap. So, the apes should jump on the Shroom Chomp's small, red mushroom tongue and then bounce to and cling onto the large Wigglevine's vine. The Wigglevine will begin moving. A trio of Tiki Zings in a vertical position come into view shortly after this. The apes should move higher up to dodge them. Not too long after passing the trio of Tiki Zings, a duo of vertical Tiki Zings comes into view, and a trail of Bananas beginning with a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Coin nears the apes, moving in its wavy position. The apes should move a little lower on the Wigglevine. They can collect the trail of Bananas, as long as they know that they will not be damaged by the two Tiki Zings. Shortly after collecting the Banana Coin, a Big Zing comes into view. Now, the apes should dodge the Big Zing by either moving to the way bottom of the Wigglevine's vine or climbing up to or close to the top of the Wigglevine's vine. After the Big Zing, two Tiki Zings in a vertical position come into view, with a large space in between them. Also, a trail of Bananas beginning with a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Coin nears the apes as it moves in its wavy pattern. The Kongs can collect the Bananas, however, they MUST make sure that they are in the space between the two Tiki Zings and not in the spot where they will be damaged by them. Shortly before the apes pass the two Tiki Zings with the large space between them, they will also see a trio of Tiki Zings in a vertical position coming up. So, as soon as the heroes pass these two Tiki Zings, they must get ready for the next group by heading to the very top of the Wigglevine's vine. Soon, just before the duo pass this trio of Tiki Zings in a vertical position, they will see a group of two Tiki Zings in a vertical position. They can be easily dodged by moving downward on the Wigglevine's vine. Not too long after passing this group of two Tiki Zings in a vertical position, the apes will see a Big Zing and a regular-sized Tiki Zing in a vertical position, however, there is a small space in between them, not much larger than the Kongs themselves. As the apes get closer to this Big Zing and Tiki Zing, a trail of Bananas led by a strange, winged Banana and ending with the letter O nears the apes as it moves in its wavy pattern. The apes can try to collect the Bananas and the letter O, but they must be aware that they are safe (positioned to go through the space) and not at risk of being harmed by the Big Zing or the Tiki Zing (if positioned at their position). After the Kongs go through this small space between the Big Zing and the Tiki Zing, they must now dodge another trio of Tiki Zings in a vertical position. The apes should move to the very bottom of the Wigglevine's vine to dodge these enemies. Shortly after passing them, the large Wigglevine stops at a small floor. There is a cracked wooden object in the floor with two Bananas and a Banana Bunch in the center that form an arch above it. Here, there are two routes to take. If the Kongs pound on the cracked wooden object enough times, they fall into a skull Barrel Cannon or Auto-Fire Barrel, which then fires them up to another skull Auto-Fire Barrel. That skull Auto-Fire Barrel then fires the Kongs forward to another skull Auto-Fire Barrel, which in turn fires the apes onto the top of a Wigglevine (the very top that cannot be reached at all). The Wigglevine begins moving through a large group of collectibles while the apes collect a trail of Bananas that can only be reached with the skull Auto-Fire Barrel route (this trail of Bananas is not in the large group of collectibles but above it). The apes will pass the letter N on the way. Soon the Wigglevine stops at a floor with a part covered in leaves. If the apes jump into the leaves, they will move, revealing the heroes on a small platform that has a special Banana Bunch and Banana Coins on it. Now, if the apes ignore the cracked wooden object and decide to continue on, they will reach the end of the small floor. A long vine swings back and forth in a large gap and part of a large, curved trail of Bananas can be seen. When the vine nears the apes, they can climb onto it. The large trail of Bananas can be collected if the apes move to the very bottom of the long vine. The vine swings the heroes towards a small platform with two Bananas and a Banana Coin on top in a vertical position. The duo can jump here. Here, they will see a large, awaiting Wigglevine waiting on the heroes to grab onto its vine. The heroes can grab onto the Wigglevine, causing it to begin moving through a large group of collectibles. No Tiki Zings are in this large group of collectibles nor on this entire ride, so the apes are safe. However, they can still perform the same moves as if the Tiki Zings and Big Zings were there (moving up and down) to collect the collectibles, as well as the letter N. Shortly after the letter N, the Wigglevine stops at a floor with a propeller-like plant that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely, and the Tutorial Pig who hosts the first and only checkpoint in the level. Shortly after the Tutorial Pig and the checkpoint, there is a higher part of floor with a Tiki Goon on it and an EVEN HIGHER part of floor with a large, strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. Also, on the part of floor with the large strange plant, there is what looks like a wooden platform covered in leaves. The Kongs should jump here, causing the leaves to move away. It is a wooden platform! And it holds a DK Barrel too! Wow, those DK Barrels really are good locators!!! Anyway, there is a sandbag hanging not too high above the wooden platform to the right. If the Kongs take the DK Barrel and jump into the sandbag, not only does it release Diddy Kong (if you don't have Diddy Kong), but it also bursts the sandbag and releases a Puzzle Piece. Anyway, after the high part of floor with the large strange plant, the apes can find two Tiki Zings moving up and down over a gap with a cracked wooden object in between them. Some leaves are underneath the cracked wooden object. If the apes jump on the cracked wooden object and pound it enough times, it breaks, and the heroes fall into a Barrel Cannon. The Barrel Cannon can fire the apes up to a long floor with a trail of Bananas that heads into some leaves. The heroes can run or roll through this, causing the leaves to move away and reveal more Bananas in the trail and a Puzzle Piece at the very end of the floor. There is a cracked wooden object beneath the Puzzle Piece. If pounded on enough times, it breaks, causing the apes to fall on a small floor with a Tiki Doom on it. Now if the apes decided to ignore the first cracked wooden object between the two Tiki Zings, they can jump to a small high part of floor with a Tiki Goon and a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely. Here, they can then drop down to thesmall floor with the Tiki Doom on it. Anyway, at the end of this small floor, there is an awaiting large Wigglevine over a gap. When the Kongs grab onto its vine, it, of course, begins to move. Shortly after it starts moving, two Tiki Zings appear (by the way, from here and on, Tiki Zings actually move from out of nowhere into the screen, so the apes must be careful) from out of nowhere and stop in a vertical position. There is a space in between them. The Kongs should move where they will be carried through the space and not the Tiki Zings. A trail of Bananas led by a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Coin moves towards the apes in its wavy pattern. Also, shortly after this trail appears, a trio of Tiki Zings in a vertical position appear out of nowhere. The apes must move up to the top of the Wigglevine's vine to dodge these enemies. Almost immediately after the apes pass them, another trio of Tiki Zings in a vertical position appear however at a different place. This time, the apes must move down on the Wigglevine's vine to dodge these enemies. Almost immediately after the apes pass this trio of Tiki Zings, another trio of Tiki Zings appears out of nowhere, however, the only difference between the previous two trios of Tiki Zings is that there is a space between the center and bottom Tiki Zing. The apes should position themselves to go through the space while another trail of Bananas led by a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Coin nears the apes. Right before the apes go throught the space between the center and bottom Tiki Zing, a Big Zing appears behind them. So, while the apes collect the collectibles, they should head to the very bottom of the Wigglevine's vine to dodge this dangerous enemy. Right when the heroes are passing the Tiki Zing, a medium-sized Tiki Zing appears out of nowhere, like the other enemies. Hmmm...there were Tiki Zings, Big Zings and Flaming Tiki Zings, but they never said they were Medium Zings or medium-sized Tiki Zings!!! Well, we know it is a medium-sized Tiki Zing because it is larger than the previous Tiki Zings, but smaller than the Big Zing. Really strange, anyway the apes should move upwards to dodge this "Medium Zing". Right when the apes are passing the "Medium Zing", three Tiki Zings, one after another, appear out of nowhere and perform a downwards slope pattern (or right diagonally position, whatever you want to call it). Hey, a negative slope!! Even harder-type math in videogames, wow!! The primates should head to the bottom of the Wigglevine's vine to dodge these enemies in their downwards slope pattern. Once the apes pass these enemies, another "Medium Zing" with another Tiki Zing above it appears out of nowhere, while a trail of Bananas led by a strange, winged Banana and ending with the letter G moves toward the Kongs. The Kongs can collect the letter G, however, they should make sure they are not at a position that puts them into danger (being harmed). Almost immediately after the letter G, the Wigglevine stops at a small floor with a Tiki Goon, a Tiki Doom, a large strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible , most likely and a propeller-like plant that can be blown on for a collectible, most likely on it. There is a gap at the very end of this small floor (which can be seen when the player lands on this floor, that's how small the floor is. Then again, other small floors are like that too). There is a vine swinging back and forth in the gap, with an Extra Life Balloon floating upwards close to the small floor. This Extra Life Balloon is a little easier to reach than the previous, for it only takes a high bounce off of the Tiki Doom and head right in midair to reach it. Anyway, the heroes should grab onto the vine. They can collect a trail of five Bananas if the apes move to the lowest point on the vine. Another vine can be seen swinging back and forth. The apes should jump to it when it gets near. A trail of three Bananas is beneath this fairly short vine, and they can be collected if the apes move down to the lowest point on the vine. Another vine swinging back and forth with a trail of three Bananas beneath it. When it nears the apes, the apes should jump to it; they can collect the three Bananas if they move to lowest point on this short vine. A small Wigglevine follows this vine the apes are on, and there is a small fungi platform with a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a collectible, most likely on it. There is also a Banana Bunch between the small Wigglevine and the small fungi platform, as well as a Big Zing moving up and down directly to the right of the small Wigglevine. When the apes grab onto this small Wigglevine and it descends close enough to the small fungi platform, the heroes should jump off of the small Wigglevine before its vine falls off. Here, the duo can find a gap between the small fungi platform and a larger fungi platform that holds a Tiki Zing moving up and down with a Banana Bunch above it (the gap holds this, not the larger fungi platform!!!) Anyway, the larger fungi platform holds a large strange plant that can be pounded on for a Banana Bunch, most likely. There is a smaller fungi platform above it with a small strange plant that can be pounded on for a Heart and a Tiki Zing moving up and down to the left of it. The Kongs should carefully jump to the larger fungi platform, and then onto the smaller fungi platform. Here, the primates can see two small Wigglevines with a Banana Bunch to the right of each of them over a gap. The heroes should jump and cling onto the first small Wigglevine's vine. Now, they should immediately after doing so, jump and grab onto the second small Wigglevine's vine. There is a third small Wigglevine after this with a Vine Chomp after it. There is a Banana Coin fairly low in the area next to the Vine Chomp's vine tongue. The heroes should jump and cling onto the third small Wigglevine's vine. Most likely, it should pull the apes toward

the Banana Coin, where they can jump into it and grab the Vine Chomp's vine tongue (you don't have to lower to the Banana Coin, you can instead just jump off and grab the Vine Chomp's vine tongue when the small Wigglevine lowers past the Chomp's head). Anyway, on the Vine Chomp's vine tongue, a Shroom Chomp can be seen on a tree stump (or log, whatever you want to call it). There is also a wooden platform above the Shroom Chomp, and a Banana Bunch above the Chomp's small, red mushroom tongue. So, the objective here is for the Kongs to jump onto the Shroom Chomp's small, red mushroom tongue and bounce onto the wooden platform. There is also a large strange plant that can be pounded for a Puzzle Piece, on this platform, just so you know. Anyway, immediately after this large strange plant is the wooden platform's end. A large Wigglevine can be seen waiting on the Kongs to grab its vine. When the Kongs grab onto the large Wigglevine's vine, it, of course, begins to move. Shortly after it begins to move, two Tiki Zings appear out of nowhere with a large space in between them (by the way, this Wigglevine travels upward diagonally). The Kongs should prepare themselves to go through the space and not the Tiki Zings, while a trail of Bananas led by a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Bunch (this type of trail of Bananas with a strange, winged Banana are very short compared to the ones before, and there are four more of these types after this one). Right when the apes go through the space, two more Tiki Zings appear out of nowhere close to the bottom of the screen with a small space between them. The apes should move up on the Wigglevine's vine to dodge these enemies. Right when the duo pass these two Tiki Zings, two more Tiki Zings appear out of nowhere with no space between them AT ALL. The apes should move downward on the Wigglevine's vine to dodge them, however, another trail of Bananas beginning with a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Bunch nears the apes. Right when the apes pass these enemies, two more Tiki Zings come out of nowhere with a large space between them. The heroes should position themselves to go through the space between the two Tiki Zings. Now, when the Kongs go through the space, another group of two Tiki Zings with no space AT ALL appear close to the bottom of the screen. The primates should move up on the Wigglevine's vine to dodge these enemies while a trail of Bananas beginning with a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Bunch nears the apes. Right when the apes pass the Tiki Zings, two more Tiki Zings appear with a small space between them. The heroes should move down on the Wigglevine's vine to avoid these enemies. Right when the apes pass these Tiki Zings, a n exact same group of Tiki Zings as this group here appears near the bottom of the screen. The heroes should now move up on the Wigglevine's vine as a trail of Bananas beginning with a strange, winged Banana and ending with a Banana Bunch nears the apes. After this, no more Tiki Zings appear and the large Wigglevine nears the level's Slot Machine Barrel. Right before the Wigglevine stops beside the Slot Machine Barrel, a trail of four Banana Coins being led by a strange, winged Banana nears the apes. When the apes jump off this Wigglevine and hit the Slot Machine Barrel, the level is complete.

Secrets

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: When the heroes ride on the first large Wigglevine in the level (which is the first Wigglevine in the level), the letter K appears at the end of a trail of Bananas being led by a strange, winged Banana. This trail of Bananas with the letter K is the last trail before that Wigglevine stops at a platform.
  • O: In the second part of the level where the Kongs use a large Wigglevine to travel over a large abyss, they should head between two Tiki Zings to collect the letter O, which is at the end of a trail of Bananas being led by a strange, winged Bananas.
  • N: On the last Wigglevine before the checkpoint, the heroes go through a large group of collectibles. The letter N can be found among this, and can be collected if the apes move on the Wigglevine.
  • G: In the third part of the level where the apes must ride a Wigglevine over a large gap while Tiki Zings attack them, the letter G appears at the end of a trail of Bananas being led by a strange, winged Banana.

Puzzle Pieces

  1. WigglevineWonders265-1-

The Kongs in the level's Bonus Room.

At the beginning of the level, if the heroes high bounce on the first Tiki Goon in the level, which is found on a large fungi platform, they can reach an area covered in leaves. The first Puzzle Piece and a DK Barrel can be found here.
  2. When the apes land on the platform right after the abyss with the letter K, they should pound the large strange plant to release the second Puzzle Piece.
  3. Right after the Kongs lower themselves to a floor with the help of a small Wigglevine, they will be on a floor with a higher part of floor. The apes should jump onto the higher part of floor. Here, they should notice what looks like a wooden platform covered in leaves. The duo should jump here. They will find themselves on a wooden platform with another wooden platform above them. The Kongs should jump to this wooden platform. Now, there are two small Wigglevines and a skull Barrel Cannon after them. The heroes should jump from the first Wigglevine to the second, to the skull Barrel Cannon quickly before the Wigglevines' vine breaks. The skull Barrel Cannon will fire them into a Bonus Room. Here, the apes must maneuver around several stationary platforms to collect eighty Bananas, two Banana Coins and one Extra Life Balloon. If everything is collected within thirty seconds, a Puzzle Piece appears in the middle of the room for the heroes to collect.
  4. Hidden in some leaves just after the checkpoint is a DK Barrel. There is a sandbag in the air close to the wooden platform holding the DK Barrel. If the apes grab the DK Barrel and jump into the sandbag, it bursts, and releases a Puzzle Piece.
  5. On the platform located immediately after the fourth Puzzle Piece, there is a gap with two Tiki Zings moving up and down and a cracked wooden object between the enemies. Some leaves are beneath the cracked object. If the apes pound on the cracked wooden object enough times, it breaks, causing the apes to fall into a Barrel Cannon. The Barrel Cannon can fire the apes onto a floor high in the air. A trail of Bananas is here and goes into a group of leaves. If the apes run or roll through this, they will find a Puzzle Piece at the very end. They can just pound the cracked wooden object underneath the Puzzle Piece to get back to normal ground.
  6. On the platform following the letter G, the primates should pound the large strange plant to reveal a Puzzle Piece.
  7. Immediately before the final area where the heroes must ride the last Wigglevine, they should pound on a strange plant for it to spit out a Puzzle Piece.

Trivia

  • The winged Bananas in this level normally don't appear outside of Bonus Rooms, making Wigglevine Wonders one of the few levels to feature winged Bananas outside of Bonus Rooms. However, winged Bananas are still seen in the next levels.
